Publisher's summary

Joe wakes up in a barley field with no clothes, no memories, and no idea how he got there. Before he knows it, he's off on the last great journey of his life. With his soul guide Baker and a charge to have courage from a mysterious, alluring, and somehow familiar Stranger, Joe sets off through a fantastical changing landscape to confront his past. The quest is not without challenges. Joe's past is not always an easy thing to relive, but if he wants to find peace - and reunite with the Stranger he is so strongly drawn to - he must continue on until the end, no matter how tempted he is to stop along the way.

Concentration needed...

To fully grasp the premise of this book, you will need to make certain that you are listening intently and are completely concentrating on the tale that is being presented. If not, you will have to start over. The first part of the book was a bit confusing for me. First, I thought perhaps it had to do with this being an audio book, but after actually reading the first part of the book I discovered it was indeed a bit confusing. With all that, after you join Joe on his journey of self-discovery, the tale is filled with subjective perceptions and you certainly enjoy the adventure. I enjoyed the presence of Bette...but many probably will not get the reference. I am just from the old school. I did like this book, after I caught up to or got on the same level as Eric Arvin's thoughts. Charlie David did a great job, as usual, in telling the story and providing differing attributes for the characters. I do recommend, just go slowly and concentrate. Of course, it could just have been me!!!

Is This Heaven or Hell?

I can't give away the plot of the book, but I was expecting gay romance or erotica, not a jumbled mess of a third rate (is there a lower rate?) attempt at literature, filled with schlocky metaphors and vain attempts to become a a gay C.S.Lewis and Salinger. Pretentious. The reader, God bless his attempts to add some character, just made it worse. I dare anyone to make it to the end of this torturous tale. In all the years I have been an audible listener I have never returned a book... until now.

What happens after DEATH !

If you could sum up Woke Up in a Strange Place in three words, what would they be?

imagine this happening

What was one of the most memorable moments of Woke Up in a Strange Place?

What we are told as young people, this could all change in what could be. This could actually happen. We don't really know what happens after death....

Which character – as performed by Charlie David – was your favorite?

Main character- is the best to focus on.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The road to experience.

Any additional comments?

This book opens the mind to accept what we could want to happen and what might happen. Loved this book cause it gives an alternate afterlife then what we have been told.

Would you consider the audio edition of Woke Up in a Strange Place to be better than the print version?

i don't know, i never read it.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I think the story was fine, I just lost interest and that's something considering i adore everything Charlie David. I'm going to wait awhile and go back to it. I'm thinking I should like this audiobook.

Which scene was your favorite?

I kept thinking is he dead? is he dreaming?

Any additional comments?

Mystical, I guess that's a good word to describe this book

A beautiful, heart wrenching, tale of discovery.

This book would have reached me no matter what, it's one of those that let's your imagination run wild even after it's done but knowing not just that this wonderful author has passed but how and the story between him and the man he loved ended is both was sob inducing, ugly cry material and beautiful in a painful, hopeful kind of way. being able to believe that this book holds even a tiny piece of truth and possibilty gives me hope that even the saddest endings have hope.
