Publisher's summary

Clever and ambitious, Special Agent Adam Darling (yeah, he's heard all the jokes before) was on the fast track to promotion and success until his mishandling of a high profile operation left one person dead and Adam "on the beach". Now he's got a new partner, a new case, and a new chance to resurrect his career, hunting a legendary serial killer known as the Crow in a remote mountain resort in Oregon.

Deputy Sheriff Robert Haskell may seem laid-back, but he's a tough and efficient cop - and he's none too thrilled to see feebs on his turf - even when one of the agents is smart, handsome, and probably gay. But a butchered body in a Native American museum is out of his small town department's league. For that matter, icy, uptight Adam Darling is out of Rob's league, but that doesn't mean Rob won't take his best shot.

A very enjoyable mystery...

With a bit of romance. I really liked both of the main characters in this book. The mystery was very good-a serial killer on the loose-that held my interest throughout the story. I wish that there were more books in this series! The narrator was excellent, as always!❤️

Felt a bit unfinished

It was quite good, the set up was interesting and characters quite likeable. The ending felt kind of rushed and the whole resolution deserved a bit more time spent on it imo,

Nice mystery and great performance

This is another really nice Josh Lanyon mystery. Adam (who was first introduced in Fair Game) is a "disgraced" FBI agent who screwed up an assignment and as a result is put on "morgue" patrol chasing a serial killer. This investigation leads him to rural Oregon where he meets Deputy Robert. Although the mystery they are investigating is dominant in the story, the romance between the men is also very present. They start out as convenient f**k buddies and through working together and some pretty hairy situations, romance blooms. There is also a solid cast of supporting characters which really adds to the story. This is a HFN ending, but it was satisfying. I hope to see a sequel with this couple in the future. Gomez Pugh is masterful in his performance. He is a favorite narrator and really delivers.

Excellent

Without a doubt Josh Lanyon is one of my very favorite writers, add Gomez Pugh as a narrator and I'm in heaven. This is as usual an excellent book to both read and listen to. I hope there will be addition story's for Adam and Rob in the future.

slow romance, which I enjoyed
um I recommend the the book
if u like excitement, mystery and murder with and little romance to top it off
then this is for u , I liked that the whole book didn't focus on sex but the actual plot of the story

So Glad I Chose This One

I'm so glad I picked this title. I tend to go with books in series, but decided to take a chance on this standalone. The narration was excellent and the character development was great as well. I usually love everything by this author, and this title did not disappoint!

Such a great author

I first listened to this book years ago when I first started on Audible. Having listened to hundreds of books since then it hit me around chapter 3 just how much better this book and this author are to most of the others. I am now going to relisten to all of the books I have by this talented person who has given me great stories that I love so much.

Bring Adam and Rob Back!!!

This book was written in 2015, so wishing that Josh Lanyon would bring Adam Darling and Rob Haskell back into another book is not likely to happen, but maybe she'll read this review!
This was such a good book! I wish I could listen to books like this one more often!! I have already listened to almost all Josh Lanyon's audio books except for a few, like Winter Kill. That one I had overlooked until now.
Who would guess that a small Oregon tourist town would have serial killers? Are the murder victims connected to one another? Is there a serial killer or just bad luck for people visiting and living in the little town of Nearby, Oregon?
I found all the characters interesting, and Gomez Pugh performed really well in differentiating voices and narrating with perfect nuance.

Well...

I I would have to say that this story was interesting. I thought that the pace was pretty slow so when it picked up I was pretty excited. The relationship between two main characters kind of danced around each other. The narrator's voice was a little on the dry side but after you can look past that it turns out to be a really good story. if you like a good mystery story with a little gay romance ,but not much, then this is the store for you. I would have to say the most exciting part about this book was trying to put the clues together to figure out who killed who and what was going to happen next. Like I said earlier, I'm not lying about the pace being pretty slow. So if you are patient it's worth the wait towards the end but if you're not then this book probably isn't for you.
