Publisher's summary

From the Man Booker-short-listed and Baileys Women's Prize-winning author of How to be both, the highly anticipated second novel in the acclaimed Seasonal series, which both continues the arc of the series and is also an extraordinary stand-alone listen.

In Winter, life force matches up to the toughest of the seasons. In this second novel in her acclaimed Seasonal cycle, the follow-up to Ali Smith's sensational Autumn, Smith's shape-shifting quartet of novels casts a merry eye over a bleak post-truth era with a story rooted in history, memory, and warmth, its taproot deep in the evergreens: art, love, laughter. It's the season that teaches us survival.

Stellar and magical!

Not enough stars! I loved this. It's like experiencing one of Shakespeare's comedies through quantum lenses. Yeah, I know: That makes no sense at all. But it captures the joy of the book -- the delightful characters, the bending and twisting of time, the playfully transcendent aura that hovers over everything, the humorous authorial interjections, the assumption of disguises, the comic resolution... I loved "Autumn" equally as much and I am ready to follow Ms. Smith anywhere. A special shout-out to narrator Melody Grove whose performance is nothing less than miraculous. What a splendid pairing of author and reader!

Outstanding narrator

I really like Melody Grove's narration. She gets everything just right. Pace, intonation, mood. Flawlessly picks out the characters' individuality in dialog sections and does men's voices really well despite her naturally high vocal pitch. Bravo!

I don’t

I don’t. I don’t get it. What was the point? Why did I sit through that?

So unique

Unexpected, interesting, compelling. , thought provoking. I often have to rewind to ensure I didn’t miss a paragraph. I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

I just couldn't get into this one.

i have a really hard time with the narration of this book and struggled to finish, but finally did. The ending was good, but not sure if it was worth listening to the whole thing for that. I had started this series last month, but don't think I can take another droning story for thoughtful ending.
