Audible Editor Reviews

"Narrator Kevin Kenerly helps, too, especially since a large part of the narrative takes place inside R’s head, detailing his thoughts and feelings in an articulate, lyrical way that he’s unable to express via his extremely limited zombie vocabulary. Kenerly’s somewhat hushed tones draw the listener in right away, when R has yet to meet Julie and is instead just one more anonymous member of the undead, shuffling around an abandoned airport and occasionally venturing into the nearest city to feast on the flesh of the living. R’s musings about the end of the world and what it means to be a zombie have a stark and beautiful immediacy, and Kenerly gives them all the power and reverence they deserve." (Josh Bell)

Publisher's Summary

R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His choice to protect her will transform not only R but his fellow Dead and perhaps their whole lifeless world. Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies explores what happens when the cold heart of a zombie is tempted by the warmth of human love.

What the Critics Say

“I never thought I could care so passionately for a zombie. This story stayed with me long after I was done reading it.” (Stephenie Meyer, #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Twilight series)

I found this story to be surprisingly bittersweet and endearing. It is a truly unique take on the zombie novel in that it is written from the zombie's point of view.

What does Kevin Kenerly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There were parts where Kevin was switching characters, but I didn't catch it due to the characters voice being too similar. Not many, but it did stand out to me. Otherwise, very well done.

If you could take any character from Warm Bodies out to dinner, who would it be and why?

R for sure...I would love M to be there for comic relief as well.

    Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed the book and finished it in less than three days. Very unique perspective and liked the thought of a cure. Would highly recommend for entertainment. Now off to see the movie.

    "Good enough story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's a good, easy listen and has some entertaining parts. I didn't love it, but I don't feel like I wasted my time.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way the author illustrated the mental and emotional struggle of R.

Did Kevin Kenerly do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The narrator did a decent job differentiating the characters, but he kind of whistles his 'S's and sometimes it gets pretty annoying. I'm not sure what makes someone who does that decide to narrate an audio book or who in their right mind hired him, but it was a little distracting and I had to stop listening a couple of times.

    "What a great story!"

What an interesting take on Zombies. I am so glad I listened before the movie came out... my imagination about what the characters look like, really make the story come alive for me. I don't want to say too much, so just buy this book for the humor, unusual premise, good story line, and interesting characters.

    Story
"A different take on the impending zombie apocalyps"
Where does Warm Bodies rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Warm bodies is a wonderful book to listen to and the performance is great. Engaging the entire time.

What did you like best about this story?

I am a big zombie enthusiast/survivalist and this is the first hopeful story I have read about the zombie apocalypse. It clearly identifies the inner struggle that many zombies face but also shows that even their greatest trials can be overcome with the right weapon...in this case a brain that infects the main character R with love and questions.

What does Kevin Kenerly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He helps evoke the emotions felt by R and the tone of this book

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

With love comes life. Even for the undead.

    Any additional comments?

This book was really fun and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I found it hard to follow. I am thinking there wasn't enough pause time to indicate changes of thoughts.

Would you recommend Warm Bodies to your friends? Why or why not?

    No, I wouldn't. It wasn't that great.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Kenerly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Kevin Kenerly before. I would definitely listen to him again. Very good.

Was Warm Bodies worth the listening time?

    Not really.
