Publisher's summary

Educated in the Florence of Cosimo de'Medici, trained in knighthood at his father's mountaintop castle, Vittorio inhabits a world of courtly splendor and country pleasures - a world suddenly threatened when his entire family is confronted by an unholy power.

In the midst of this upheaval, Vittorio is seduced by the vampire Ursula, the most beautiful of his supernatural enemies. As he sets out in pursuit of vengeance, entering the nightmarish Court of the Ruby Grail, increasingly more enchanted (and confused) by his love for the mysterious Ursula, he finds himself facing demonic adversaries, war, and political intrigue.

Against a backdrop of the wonders - both sacred and profane - and the beauty and ferocity of Renaissance Italy, Anne Rice creates a passionate and tragic legend of doomed young love and lost innocence.

Vittorio is Volume 2 of The New Tales of the Vampires.

Don't buy abridged...

I'm sure the full book is right on, but I hated listening to this. The entire time my mind wondered at what was missing. Were the characters better developed, was there more written on the world, did the plotlines go deeper??? I didn't know! This is an abridged recording, adequate for its purpose, but if you are like me, you will not like this sound-byte version of the story.

Other than that, the story is sound and it is an alluring tale. I considered this a three hour commercial for the real thing!

what?

why so short? was this book an afterthought?
I feel left hanging...
it's as though Anne Rice started this but never got around to the storytelling...

As horrible as trying to sit down and read it

I bought this book in paper back and couldn't get through it. I don't know why I thought an audio book would be different. It was just as bad. I like gay porn, I however, do not like to read an entire book that is seemingly based on it. It's really geared for readers who like nothing more than to sit down to Anne Rice's slow writing style and hear about gay relationships. Oh, how it drags and drags. Don't waste your credit the intro is better than the entire book. I'd give it no stars if I could.

Strange, beautiful, sad.

Intriguing performance by Cumming. Conflicted characters find love but at a high price. Everyone struggles with their own Angels and Demons, so it's relatable. While endings often disappoint, this held bittersweet resolution that leaves you reflective.
