Publisher's summary

Sophie Katz, bestselling mystery writer and amateur sleuth, has just discovered that Anatoly, her sexy Russian P.I boyfriend of six years is actually married to the daughter of a Russian mafia boss. Devastated by his betrayal, Sophie banishes him from their beautiful San Francisco Victorian home.

Desperate to distract their friend and pull her out of her depression, Dena and Marcus spirit Sophie away to Vegas for a "fun filled weekend" at a Sex Toy Trade Show. But bigger trouble awaits in Vegas. Anatoly is there; his beautiful Russian wife is there; and so is a dead body stuffed into a closet. And to make matters worse someone has gone out of their way to implicate Sophie in the murder. Sophie's completely over her head and when a mysterious man offers her help she's tempted to take it. But who is he and whose side is he on? It's also clear that whoever the bad guy is he would have no problem killing Anatoly, and although she may want to kill him herself, no one else is going to hurt Sophie's man.

Awesome

I’m new to Krya Davis’s work but I must say that I’ve been thoroughly enjoyed each book in her series and highly recommend that you read all of her work, she knows how to write a page turner.

Petulant, childish, annoying

This Sophie seems to be a character devolving into selfish, self-centred, petulance. Drama queen who has learned nothing about life and danger and has become more and more distrustful and fueled by a genuine LOVE of lies and deception and self-deception. This Sophie needs to be smacked upside the head...by herself. So annoying and the fact that everyone around her indulges her stupid behaviour...if only Dina / Deena and her sister just intervened and called her out... This Sophie is a disappointment. Whatever editor urged this character direction, smh...you only made Sophie seem absurdly stupid for someone who’s had all the experiences the character has had... 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Enough

the love affair is taking on the characteristics of totally uninteresting -- the set up for the break up sounds like high school -- the mis-information continues and continues. I have liked other books in this series but this wasn't one of them. Overall disappointing.

Such a disappointment

As much as I enjoyed the others in the series, I couldn't stand this one. What was clever and subtle in the characterization, dialogue, and storyline of previous books became peurile and revolting. The whining, overdone narration had me skipping chapters. I forced myself to finish in hopes of a resurrection that never came.

I love Sophie Katz but I hated this book

I feel like my review requires an apology to Kyra Davis. I love these books. They're always so much fun. In fact my only complaint about the earlier books is the gratuitous sex scene thrown into each book. I just fast forward. They make me feel like a voyeur and they don't advance the plot. We get it. They like each other.

All of the earlier books have been the sort of thing I've devoured in a day or two. Yes, they're over the top and you have to enter an agreement with the writer that you will suspend disbelief and she won't make it too hard to do so. Sadly, in this book, she didn't keep up her end and I couldn't do my part either.

It felt like she wanted to write a spy thriller. It wasn't fun or funny. It was a labor. The secondary characters became tertiary. You didn't enjoy her relationships with her friends and family, they were merely props.

It was action packed, but instead of feeling exhilarated, I just felt tired.

That said, I liked all of the earlier books so much I will buy whatever comes next.

I don't know about the story couldn't finish, Perf

What disappointed you about Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend In Vegas?

Good premise

What could Kyra Davis have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Got a different narrator, Tavia Gilbert, Jennifer Ikeda, Poter......

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator is why I couldn't finish, sorry. Maybe it is for preteens.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend In Vegas?

Hard to tell it was the narrator that made me give up.

Any additional comments?

I will from now on listen to the sample before buying a book. No matter how well it is written if the performance is bad.......

bad cover, worse story

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I really thought it was going to take off and be more exciting. The characters were shallow and undefined while at the same time being stereotypical. I'm glad I didn't pay much for it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

What was most disappointing about Kyra Davis’s story?

It never took off and got more exciting. It needed more depth of character and detail.

Which scene was your favorite?

Don't know

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I liked the main character. She was strong and independant. Also, I liked that they went to a sex toy trade show. It was a different thing to happen in a story.

Any additional comments?

Too many characters to keep track of

Boring

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have no idea who possibly enjoy this book, boring, flat, the characters sound as if they are on tranquilizers...

Has Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend In Vegas turned you off from other books in this genre?

No....

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice was so flat!!! It sounded so monotone

What character would you cut from Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend In Vegas?

All of them!

Any additional comments?

For the first time I did not finish a book, I couldn't stand it any longer!

Not a fan

Not really a fan. I cannot pinpoint why I was not really getting into this book, but it may have been the narrator. Plus, I don't understand the "vanity" part of the title.

Couldn't finish, MaryAnn just too irritating

I tried to get interested in this book, but just couldn't make it work. The characters didn't appeal to me, and MaryAnn was the absolute straw that broke the camel's back. I think she was supposed to be cute in her absence of mind, but it just irritated the heck out of me every time she opened her mouth.
The main character got off on the wrong foot at the very beginning of the book, by taking the word of a malicious troublemaker, (which she knew her to be a conniving con) then not even listening to the love of her life's side of the story, just immediately kicks him out of the house. I realized it was going to be one of those books, where you stay half mad at how stupid the characters are acting, and just wasn't in the mood to deal with frustration. At any rate, I decided to go to something else.
