Publisher's summary

MaryJanice Davidson's cult hit Undead and

Unwed is a delightful mixture of Sex and the City and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Waking up in a tacky coffin and wearing off-brand shoes, Betsy Taylor can't believe the horrible turn her life has taken; then she discovers she's a vampire. Soon, Betsy becomes a participant in a power struggle between the forces of darkness. With only her friend Jessica and the hunky vampire Sinclair to help her, this new "Queen of Vampires" will have a tough time getting her afterlife straight.

Hilarious!

I loved this book and the rest in the series. I’ve read them all twice, and now I am getting the newest release, Undead and Uneasy. I’ve been waiting for it to come out. This series is hilarious and entertaining. I laughed out loud and really enjoyed the ridiculous situations in which only Betsy can find herself. This is not a serious novel with deep brooding characters. It is comedy, drama and romance. Betsy is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she is loveable. If you enjoy fun books and don’t need your vampires to all be serious and dark, you will enjoy this series.

Fun, funny, shallow... and still likable.

My thoughts on this story were mixed.... So I separated my thoughts into categories.

The good: This story will make you laugh, even if you have never stepped foot in a designer shoe store. The narrator was awesome, and oddly enough, I would listen to her again in an instant. From the large amount of wit and entertainment the author shared in this story, I get the feeling that this author has already written, or will write in the future, much more worthwhile stories.

The bad: I like stories where you want to know the characters, and I'm sad to say that I honestly don't want to know or meet any of these ones. The story shines in some spots, and drowns in some others.... The story really is entertaining to listen to, but you find yourself wondering, "Where is this story going??". Unfortunately, you will think the same thing when it abruptly screeches to a halt.

VERY ENTERTAINING

What made the experience of listening to Undead and Unwed the most enjoyable?

Nancy Wu is very funny, she brought out the humor in this book, while keeping the drama.

What other book might you compare Undead and Unwed to and why?

MaryJanice Davidson stands on her own and by herself. She combines humor in with her drama and horror so perfectly, I don't think anyone can compare.

Which character – as performed by Nancy Wu – was your favorite?

Jessica was the best performance, but Betsy was just as good, Nancy really got those two characters just perfectly in my view.

Any additional comments?

The performance was really great, I was having a super bad day and not in the mood for desling with stupidness, but this performance just made me happy.

Light vampire humor

If you could sum up Undead and Unwed in three words, what would they be?

Air-headed vampire queen -- The central (first person perspective) character is a superficial, mostly air-headed blonde who is supposedly destined to become queen of the vampires.

What other book might you compare Undead and Unwed to and why?

The closest comparison I can think of is to Harmony from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if Harmony was a nicer person, had a soul and extra vampire powers. The Betsy series doesn't really fit in well with the current crop of dramatic and angst-laden vampire books, which is to its credit.

Which character ??? as performed by Nancy Wu ??? was your favorite?

Nancy Wu is pitch-perfect as Besty. Having heard her read the series, it's difficult to imagine anyone else doing a better job.

Any additional comments?

I consider this to be popcorn-like literature -- light, fun and not very serious. Don't expect to go away reconsidering your life or grappling with difficult moral choices. This is just a fun, relatively quick read/listen that will probably make you laugh. The rest of the series is still fun, but the first book is definitely the best.

Hilarious story but awkward voice acting

I have to say I really enjoyed the first book of the Queen Betsy series. If you are a fan of Molly Harper's Jane Jameson series, this one will be up your alley as they both contain the same snarky humor and sarcastic heroines. The story was fantastic and had me continuing to listen despite the disappointing voice acting. There were lots of awkward, breathy pauses, and most of the characters sound the same. I plan on listening to the rest of the series (just finished the second book). I just hope they get a new voice actress!

Queen Betsy 🤕😁

Such an enjoyable read and enjoyed the narration and reading of this audio book by Nancy Wu. Can't wait to see what Betsy is up to next and all the suffering that Eric feels under her narcissist tendencies and so vain, but very friendly personality. Very interesting Vampire Queen and King.

Cute story

Where does Undead and Unwed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have only read 2 audio books and I would rather hear a Man play a man and a Woman play a woman. When the woamn plays the man it ruins the story because of the fakeness of it.

What other book might you compare Undead and Unwed to and why?

True blood/Sookie stackhouse and most Young vampire books. Not very original but a cute story

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I found the narrator annoying, her version of Sinclair was hard to listen to. I didnt imagine him to sound that was and it ruined it for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The story was good, but I will read the next one (not the audio version) because in my head the caracters are sexier, the narrator was not a good voice to listen to.

Any additional comments?

a woman playing a man's voice is not a good way to listen to a story.

Funny yet raunchy

The narrator got on my nerves but eventually I got over that and was loving the story when out of nowhere it gets uncomfortable with strong sexual language & situations. When it wasn't doing that it was a funny, interesting listen.
