Publisher's Summary

Unabridged revised second edition

This is the epic story of Hatshepsut, the ancient Egyptian princess and queen who was crowned king, and for more than 20 years ruled on the Horus-throne of the living as the "Female Falcon". The name Hatshepsut chose for herself as pharaoh can be read as Maat is the Ka of Re, which means "the true and beautiful manifestation of the sun's divine life-force". A more poetic but still accurate translation is "truth is the soul of the sun".

Before becoming pharaoh, Hatshepsut served as god's wife of Amun, an important economic and spiritual office created by her grandfather that holds the key to her mysterious and unprecedented power. Maatkare was not only a charismatic political leader, she was a mystic who inspired the wholehearted devotion of brilliant men. One of them was Senmut, a commoner she elevated to unparalleled heights of authority.

But her most influential advocate was Hapuseneb, the high priest of Amun and the governor of the South. Hapuseneb served under three pharaohs, and yet, only Maatkare is represented in his tomb. Hatshepsut-Maatkare's life is a profound story of love - for her country and two of its most fascinating men, and especially for the "Hidden One", Amun-Re, king of the gods.

History and fiction combined beautifully.

If you are a history and fiction fan, this is something you have to listen to or read. This story of Hatshepsut combines a beautiful fiction story mixed with the history of things that happen during that time period without destroying the actual facts of that time. Here the author takes us through 20 years of Hatshepsut's life. From daughter to the King to ruling King(queen) and her love and devotion to her family and people. The range of her joys and sorrows are perfectly written and you can actually feel all of her emotions. Very intriguing and will keep you listening (reading) to it until the end. Ms. Pita once again did a fabulous job not only writing this wonderful tale but narrating it too.
