Publisher's summary

To the Last Man is Zane Grey's archetypal tale of a bitter feud between two unforgiving factions: the ranchers led by Jean Isbel and, on the other side, Lee Jorth and his band of cattle rustlers. In the grip of a relentless code of loyalty to their own people, they fight the war of the Tonto Basin, desperately, doggedly, to the last man, neither side seeing the futility of it until it is too late. And in this volatile environment, young Jean finds himself hopelessly in love with a girl from whom he is apparently separated by an impassable barrier. How he battles to overcome the difficult situation makes a dramatic conclusion to this desperate feud.

Romeo and Juliette In the Old West

The Isbell family and the Jorth family have a feud stemming from a love triangle. When the big showdown finally comes the patriarch of the Isbell's calls his son from Texas to come to Arizona to help with the fight. On his way to answer his father's call, Jean Isbell unwittingly meets and falls in love with Ellen Jorth. Family loyalties are tested, secrets and lies come to light, gun stingers, ambush, murder and betrayal, plot twists abound. It's a great story with tons of action, adventure and drama.
Jim Gough, the narrator, has the perfect voice to bring this tale and all its characters to life. His Texas accent is exactly right. You can hear how much fun he's having and how much he loves this genre. I'm looking forward to listening to him read again soon.
I highly recommend this American classic western.

A long read!

Each and every scene produced a windfall of words. The author used an abundance of adjectives and the story could easily been told with 1/4 fewer words.

sad cheap romance novel sprinkled with action

this story is way overdone with unnecessary details that added nothing to the story, and repeated that throughout, and this author has an odd fascination with the word "ejaculated" when many other words with less ambiguity attached to them could have been used, it kept throwing me out of the story

Great

A guy has just got to love the old ways with morals for some and almost none for the bad ones. Thanks for the good guys to win again. John

Great storyline

I really loved the story but there are some verbs that are are overdone and though the narrator was kind of bland, he has potential.

Good Stoy

Good story with great descriptions, it is long so if you are going on a long trip this might be great, but not so much for a quick read.
