Publisher's summary

In To the Far Blue Mountains, Louis L’Amour weaves the unforgettable tale of a man who, after returning to his homeland, discovers that finding his way back to America may be impossible.

Barnabas Sackett was leaving England to make his fortune in the New World. But as he settled his affairs, he learned that a royal warrant had been sworn out against him and that men were searching for him in every port. At issue were some rare gold coins Sackett had sold to finance his first trip to the Americas - coins believed to be part of a great treasure lost by King John years before.

Believing that Sackett possesses the rest of the treasure, Queen Bess will stop at nothing to find him. If he’s caught, not only will his dream of a life in America be lost, but he will be brutally tortured and put to death on the gallows.

A good read!

I guess one needs to like Louis L'Amour to really appreciate this book, but even if you've never read him it's worth the money, if you like historical novels. He's sensitive to the clash between the Indians and Europeans; yes, Indians. Regardless of what the politically correct say on this matter, "Native Americans" prefer the name Indian. Just ask one.
Anyway, go ahead and spend the money; I bet you won't be disappointed.

One of the best written by arguably the best.

One of the best written by arguably the best. Read this awesome epic as a teen. Totally different and wondrous experience hearing it now as a father and grandfather.

None better

There is no greater writer of our time, nor of many times I think, than Louis L’Amour.
Action, suspense, authentic history, passion, bravery, patriotism, principles.
I never get more of a zest for life, a longing to do greater things, than after reading one of his books.

rereading a wonderful series.

I have read all the books by Louis L'Amour when I was in my teens in early 20s. now that I am busy 60 years of age I wish to listen to them and relive a little bit of my younger self. I started to listen do these books again a couple of days ago and again I found myself being unable to put the book down as it were. I have discovered you have the sackett series in order and that is the way I wish to listen to them. I am grateful for this and I thank you immensely. so far I have read the first three books actually listen to them and it brings back fond memories of many many hours of enjoyment when I was younger. I again am enjoying these books and I hope to read all of Louis l'amour's books again, even though it was written by his children. these books are just as good as I remember them, thank you...

2nd in the Sackett series, of Barnaby’s travels to the Mountains

You may wonder if this series existed in history. I can say it has been well thought out and brings in the moments that reflect the Indian, the British and enemy reality.fore my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather Colonial Balby who is real, granted land for service to the Queen, lived as does many of his offspring, I the mountains of SW Pa and North WV. I was impressed at the reference. The Indian background and rivers spoken of. The period was the late 1600s early in the migration from Europe. That history reflects these early days, many stories grew out of this period, this is but one.
