Creepy & gripping

Each story is well crafted, whether they are just eerie or outright frightening. And the author knows just where to end each story for maximum effect!

a masterpiece of modern horror

presented in a terrific performance, these twelve horrific stories rank with Poe, among the greats. I've never heard anything like it

Awesome

Like all things she writes, this is a masterpiece. A sort of new genre of horror. Sort of like folk horror, but instead of folk, the old, the forgotten… it’s about the new horrors created by humankind, but still feels like folk tradition horror. It’s just it’s own thing. Go for it. You won’t regret it.

Incredible

Rock solid collection and one of my favorites. When a friend asks me for a recommendation I always mention Things We Lost in the Fire. “Spiderweb” is worth the price alone. A must read

Great short story collection

I very rarely read a short story collection that is 100% perfect. There's always one or two stories that I don't particularly care for. It is true that there were stories in this collection, maybe two, that I like less than the others but overall this is a perfect story collection one of the best story collections I've ever read.

As Good As it Gets

I loved the way the Argentinian history is presented in story! Tragic but stunning. Trigger warning: femacide, abuse. Perfect voice of reader.

Engaging stories. Production could be better.

I liked the stories. Even though there was a supernatural element involved, the stories flowed naturally. People behaved as you would expect people to behave. So, as much as you can say about any horror story, these were believable. The author did not pull any cheap shots with gore or jump scenes. They even seem to be ordered in a way that escalated the tension as you progressed through the collection. The narrator exercised a variety of tones and inflections to help carry me along with the flow.
MY ONE HUGE COMPLAINT concerns the production side of this audiobook. The gap between stories was about the space of a breath and it happened in the middle of the chapters. This was incredibly confusing, and I had to work way too hard going back and listening over and over until I caught on to what was happening. Not sure if the producer was going for something edgy and artistic in this, but it fell flat for me.
