Publisher's summary

Tess has always been tormented by waking visions that make her question her sanity. When the orphanage she lives in burns down, she decides to face her fears and find out once and for all what is wrong with her. She believes the truth must lie with her parents, and so armed with only an address and phone number, Tess travels to a crumbling mansion in rural Quebec, where she discovers evidence of mistreatment of mental patients. She also makes an unlikely ally and gradually unearths her family's sad history and finally accepts the truth about her paranormal powers.

A very good listen.

I always like Kelley Armstrong. I think I’ve read or listened to every book she’s written. The narration was competent, but I was distracted by her mispronunciation of several words ... the word “experiment “ in particular. The voices were well done and easily identifiable, but I thought much of the background narration was a bit flat. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I prefer to get lost in the story without being distracted by quirks of the narrator’s performance.

Great Story

I loved the story. Kelley Armstrong wove an intriguing plot that kept me interested the entire book and made me wish for more.

I did not enjoy the narration. The narrator has a nice voice, but the recording quality varied greatly. At the start of the book it is clear but with a very slight echo that isn't even noticeable until either the VA moves in position or they picked sections that to re-record because suddenly the voice is very muffled and quite a bit softer. It is a bit annoying, very distracting and in my opinion it takes away from the story.

Usually like this author alot

This was so different from the books I have read of Kelley Armstrong.
I wanted to like it.
It was so slow and drug on.
The performance was boring as well.
It had the premise of a good book, but was a real let down for me.
I still love the author and will try some of her other titles.
