Publisher's Summary

Charla Rae Denny was the perfect wife with a perfect life, content to keep the home fires burning while her husband, JB, competed as a champion bull rider. Then their son died in a tragic accident-and everything fell apart. Divorced and saddled with a hill of bills and a failing ranch, Charla must now cowboy up to put her life back together.

James "JB" Denny doesn't stay where he isn't welcome. So when Charla shut him out of her grieving heart-and their home-a year ago, he took comfort where he could find it. Now after seeing beautiful Charla again, he wants it all back. She can't work the ranch alone, and deep in his heart he knows he can be the man she needs. But after so much history and heartbreak, can JB convince Charla to take a risk and give their love a second chance?

The Sweet Spot

Excellent book. Excellent narration. What happens to a mother and father when their child is killed. This book starts about a year after the death of Benji. I admit I cried at times. A book worth reading. I truly loved the quotes at the start of each chapter.

Boring!!

I chose this book because of the narrator Susan Bennet. She is so incredible! The story sounded good too. But it was sooo boring! There was absolutely no depth to the characters and I didn't care what happened to them. I could only get through about half of it and that was only because of the narrator!

Lovely writing, excellent storytelling

Would you listen to The Sweet Spot again? Why?

I would. As a matter of fact, I have listened to it more than once. As an author, I enjoy reading good books for the second time to dig a little more deeply into the craft. Laura Drake created a compelling storyline and did it well.

Any additional comments?

I thought the narrator did an excellent job.

A must read!

Would you listen to The Sweet Spot again? Why?

The Sweet Spot hits the spot. Once I began listening it was almost impossible to put it down to even get some sleep. The authors writing style is fantastic. She weaves a story that takes you on a journey from hopelessness to hopefulness and she doesn’t miss a thing along the way. If you want a book that will hit some hard subjects with honest emotion and yet give you that happy ending, then here it is.

Honest surprise!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I found it unusual to begin a book about depression and divorce and get so hooked on reading it that I plowed through to the happy ending. Unlike many authors, this one knows her stuff and is completely honest in her descriptions, emotions and relationships. It's great to have a real story of relationships.

What did you like best about this story?

The honesty and integrity of the author in being true to her characters and their emotions.

Have you listened to any of Susan Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

A marriage restored.

Nice story merging grief, guilt, a little jealousy and addiction. Even Alzheimer's was dealt with in a gentle perspective as all of these issues reared their ugly heads forcing Char and Jimmy to face the loss of their son. In doing so they slowly evaluated themselves and slowly restored the marriage that they had allowed to crumble.
