Publisher's Summary

"First came the days of the plague. Then came the dreams. Dark dreams that warned of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms."

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are listening to The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

    Story
    "Fantastic"

Steven King's masterpiece, wonderfully performed. From the ominous onset of super flu, to the final stand between good and evil from which the book takes its name, this was nothing but gripping, engaging and engrossing storytelling. Outstanding.

    Story
"A classic story bought to life"

Firstly, Grover Gardner is fantastic in his narration.

He brings an epic story to life and ensures each character is presented in a unique fashion.

The story itself has lost none of charm, drama and suspense. I saw the movie years ago, and not remembering the smaller details was a treat.

It's LONG but you will thank your self for committing your time to losing yourself in this story

    Story
"Excellent reading of a great book"

Being English, the extremely American accent of the narrator jarred a little at first, but as I settled into the listening, I began to appreciate what an excellent choice this reader was.

The story is a long, long one, but never flags (for those who know the story: no pun intended). I enjoyed every hour and every minute of it, and was sorry when the story ended. Highly recommended.

    Story
    "Rather Fascinating ..."

I'd recently read the paperback version, and, being a fan of the 90s tv series, finally got around to getting the audio book version. And, pleased to say, that I was not disappointed.
At 47 hours it's a beast of listen, but I never got bored or tired of the smooth, easy tones of the narrator, Grover Gardner.
As any fan of Mr King's work will know, above anything else, the man can tell a story. This is a dark tale of End Times, but without the need to throw in chapters on needless action, just to spread out the day-to-day grind that survivors would need to do in such an event. He even manages to make the motions of base-level politics seem interesting.

Although somewhat bias, being a regular reader of his books - especially his short story collections - I can't recommend this book/audio book more highly.

"Probably just me but i don't like the narrator"
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Anyone who likes the sound of Grover Gardner's voice

What did you like best about this story?

Always liked the story, starts as end of the world man made plague & becomes a fight between good and evil, I have read the 'dead tree' a couple of times and wanted something familiar to listen to

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Grover Gardner?

Almost anyone, I couldn't stand his voice & I didn't make it 1/3 of the way through the first part before deleting it

    Story
    "Truly epic"

Longer than I thought I might be able to bear but utterly engrossing throughout. The characters of this book exist like real people in my imagination and it's premise has never ceased to fascinate me. I cannot recommend the stand highly enough to anyone with the time for immersive and extensive story telling.
