Publisher's Summary

Standalone M/M romance novel.

I was afraid to fly. He made me soar. After years of climbing the ladder of success in the music industry, I finally had everything I could want. Yet I still found myself wandering through life alone. Captain Evan Roth was the one man I never saw coming. Tall, dark, mysterious...Straight. We were both damaged beyond repair and searching for something so elusive we weren't sure it even existed. But, when two broken souls collide in midair, falling is a given. I just never expected to crave the spiral down.

My Godzilla

Henry is the mega star friend of Levee, from book 1. Lonely and self isolated, Henry very rarely faces his fear of flying after a very scary close call however sometimes it’s unavoidable. This is how he meets pilot, Evan Roth. Evan has his own host of issues that equate to them being lost to each other.

The two of them are what happen when a plane implodes and starts the spiral down. However they are their own act of God and manage to save each other before a crash landing. The level of sweet and savory that you get from this story makes for the most well balanced book I could hope for. Though Evan and Henry had issues, they didn’t have miscommunication as what is found in so many books right now, there is just heart ache from an inability to come together. It makes this HEA so completely rewarding.

All Martinez balanced this series so much differently than other books. Usually it’s 20% intro 60% conflict and 20% resolution. Aly is more 40% intro and 40% conflict and 20% resolution and it makes you adore her characters so much more. You just latch on and you know them so much more as well. I really appreciated that about this book and The Fall Up. It was so refreshing.

Aiden Snow and Teddy Hamilton are nothing short of amazing. They bring to life characters that needed individuality. Just because they are 2 male characters doesn’t mean you can use one male narrator and I’m glad Aly got that. It was awesome narration and an awesome book.

I want these two narrators to read ALL my books

So I've been a little meh about MM audiobooks lately (the newest popular narrators are not really my jam), so The Spiral Down was just what I needed in so many ways. Aly Martinez is a favorite already because I looove the Broken Course series. So I snapped this right up when I saw it.

I wanted to shake Henry several times because I thought he said and did some really stupid shit. Evan was so good to him, and just when I was fantasizing that Henry actually would go down in a plane (jk, but Henry was kind of a jerk at times), Aly Martinez made him seem more lovable-flawed-human than asshole-undeserving-of-Evan. No surprise there -- this is the author who managed to make me root for Sarah from the BC books. So, while I had moments of doubt while I listened, I hung in there and ended up loving the book and Henry as well. And Evan obviously.

As for the narration - Aiden Snow is already a favorite and I am thrilled more of my favorite narrators are doing mm now. Frankly, I've been in a mm-audio funk lately bc I'm seemingly the only one that isn't a big fan of the 3 or 4 narrators that are doing basically everything mm right now. HOWEVER, I really hope to hear mr. deep-and-sexy reading more mm in the future. because he absolutely kills it in every book I've ever listened to narrated by him.
Teddy Hamilton is another favorite. Henry was kind of all over the map emotionally and Hamilton does a really good job of conveying it all. Frankly, even if the book sucked, I would've finished it for their narration alone.

I couldn't get into the story, it was irritating

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really, because I was disappointed by the story, it didn't live up to my expectations. It started out okay, but I never grew to really like either Henry or Evan. Their chase-and-retreat relationship and personalities came off as immature and silly. It took me forever to finish and even then, I skimmed to the end.

What could Aly Martinez have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I found both Henry's reasons for pushing Evan away and Evan's resistance were very contrived and overly dramatic.

What three words best describe Aiden Snow and Teddy Hamilton ’s performance?

Good dual narration.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, because the story just didn't do it for me.

Any additional comments?

I got the Audible version for $1.99 after reading the eBook on Kindle Unlimited for free, so did Whipersync and alternately read or listened when I couldn't read. I didn't listen to the entire book, but even though the story was disappointing, I liked having the narrative and don't regret paying for it.
