Publisher's Summary

Mackenzie Allen Phillips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack one wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

    "long"

I struggled in the middle to hold on to the story. it became a little long when they started talking with Papa and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. But I finished it it just took a while.

    "Theological mumble"

It starts with a good story and then it turns into an endless theological and somewhat philosophical rumbling. In my opinion, it could appeal to devout Christians who fancy themselves intellectuals but not to members of other religions or to atheists.

    "Can you say "side tracked?""
Would you try another book from Wm. Paul Young and/or Roger Mueller?

Not from Wm. Paul Young- sooooo overrated.
Yes, I enjoyed Roger Mueller as the narrator.

What could Wm. Paul Young have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

stop going off the tracks - over explaining to the point you think you understand and he keeps going to the point you are completely bored from the ridiculous writing.

Which character – as performed by Roger Mueller – was your favorite?

    Nan

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Shack?

The whole middle part of the book. It's painful.

    "Didn't Finish"

Too preachy. My only enjoyment was thinking of my religious yet racist mother-in-law meeting God in the form of a fat black woman. I hope it works out that way.

    "Annoyed"

Too repetitive and unclear. Felt like author is trying too hard to explain/convince the reader of his "revelation". I didn't want to finish book because of the messy ideas author is putting out there.

The Bible has never regretted to God as a she and it is not right to do so even in fiction.

    "Weak Storytelling"

There were a lot of serious logic issues in the writing of this story that eroded its credibility. This strikes me as a tale written for young Sunday school children or very naive and uneducated adults. This is unfortunate since the narration was quite well done.

This book reads so slow. I did see the movie first which is good. I also saw the Author on Oprah which compelled me to read it.

    "Repetitious and too religion based"

Wish I could get back the time I listened to 15 chapters before giving up. If you worship the biblical trinity, you may like this book. I'm ok with other views in moderation but this was too much for me.
