Publisher's Summary

As part of an elite K-9 search and rescue team, Sarah Patrick and her golden retriever, Monty, have a gift for finding what no else can - whether it's a survivor buried alive by an earthquake or the skeleton of a murdered child. But their latest assignment is not like the others. This time Sarah is being forced to take part in a deadly mission...by a man who knows enough about her past to ensure her cooperation. A man who won't take no for an answer.

John Logan is used to getting what he wants, and what he wants now is Sarah's help. His top-secret venture has been sabotaged, its facilities destroyed, and its handpicked staff massacred. The sole survivor is being held for ransom. Logan knows that the only way to save the man - and the secrets he holds - is to find him as soon as possible.

Racing against time to stop the bloodshed before more victims are claimed, both Sarah and Logan will look straight into the heart of true evil. And when the killer's search for revenge finally ends, no one will ever be the same again...

Abridged should not mean the ending is removed

I should have noticed that this was an abridged version of the book. I would not expect that the ending would be part of what was removed. There are five chapters and one download. I bought the kindle version just to see how the book ended. I would give that a zero star if possible.

Seriously? Audible should be ashamed

What would have made The Search better?

An ending! Seriously, I read another review which said Audible was aware the ending was cut off. Most disturbing is they know that and they sell it anyway! Audible disgusts me for this kind of behavior. Money hungry pigs.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

What ending?

What aspect of Cynthia Nixon’s performance would you have changed?

Nothing, Cynthia did great, it's just too bad they short-changed her by cutting off the ending of the book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The book not having an ending and reading the other reviews about it sparked anger at Audible.

Any additional comments?

Audible, you are the broker of this book and should be contacting the publisher yourselves to have it fixed. Your customers are purchasing the book which means beginning to end. What you are doing is false advertising and you are taking money for it. Go back to common decency and customer service school as you obviously need it.

Where is the rest?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Just as I was getting into the book, it ended - at a very suspenseful and climactic part. There is either a big mistake in editing, or I was sold half a book in the disguise of a complete novel. I don't even know about the next book. Bummer, because it was getting pretty good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Monty the dog.

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Nixon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Not my favorite Eve Duncan novel...

The story was ok but it wasn't about Eve and Joe and Jane. I had a hard time hearing the reader even with my volume at the max.

Not Abridged, chopped off

I know abridged means shortened, but in the past the abridged books I've read have included the whole story line with things cut out. Not this one. I purchased it on Amazon Audible, but only got the first part of the book. It was just enough to get me invested and leave me hanging. It doesn't end, it just stops.

I usually prefer unabridged, but that wasn't an option. Since it doesn't include any sort of ending, it was a complete waste of time and money.

BIG PROBLEM - Incomplete recording!

What would have made The Search better?

The recording ends/cuts off mid-way through the book, leaving out the resolution to the storyline. You know, the part where the heroes save the day! Even abridged versions have endings! Audible Help stated the publisher sent it to them that way, so I contacted the author.

Get the other version

This version did not end at the end. I had to use another audible credit to acquire the book that actually included the ending ... I think it was the 8 hour version with the red cover. It was awkward listening to someone else narrate, and not necessarily worth the struggle of attempting to find the end. However, the book itself is thoroughly enjoyable. She does an outstanding job developing characters and drawing you into a story. Absolutely listen, but to a different version.

Old favorite found again

If you could sum up The Search in three words, what would they be?

Absolutely frikin riveting

What did you like best about this story?

Monty and Maggie. When I first read this, in paper form, I had just gotten a golden retriever puppy. Now she's gone, but listening to this again brought back all those happy memories.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene with Madden confronting Sarah and Logan, and Logan's resulting outburst.

If you could rename The Search, what would you call it?

I don't think I would rename it.

Any additional comments?

I read it years ago without reading the first two books. I was only slightly confused, and only in regard to the interpersonal intricacies. I was able to figure it out pretty quickly though, so it wasn't a big deal.

Nothing special

I have started listening for about five times before I made myself listen to the entire book. The first 30 minutes were impossible to get through because of the narration. I like Cynthia Nixon on screen but listening to this was awful. Especially when the dogs thoughts are reflected. Soooooooooo slooooooooooooow.

I'm glad it's over.
