Good history book

It was difficult for me to get inside of this story. The readers were very bad, one talks with a hot potato in his mouth the other with Irish accent. The story is good. The writer does not have the ability to get you inside the book from the first page, but after a little while the story floats.

Loved finding out what Jamie was up to

What made the experience of listening to The Scottish Prisoner the most enjoyable?

It was great to find out what Jamie was up to since Claire returned to her own time. It felt like an extension of the Outlander series, something to hold you over while waiting for the next book in that series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I had trouble with the narrator who did Jamie's voice only because after hearing Davina Porter do all of the voices for the Outlander series, Jamie already had a voice in my mind.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I wanted to draw it out as long as possible - dying for the next book in the Outlander series.

Great read !!! Wonderful complement to Outlander series!

Love all the Lord John books!!! For those of us waiting for another Outlander book the Lord John series is perfect ~ Lord John is engaging as a character and his adventures add explanation to the story line of Outlander.

Jamie's narration?

why, if the voice of Jamie could do a Scottish accent (he does when he's speaking), doesn't he do it when he's thinking? I can't imagine Jamie Fraser thinking in a British accent.....

Enjoyed very much. Fits beautifully into The Outlander series and enriches my understanding of it.

Loved it!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this. Some people have mentioned that if you are used to Davinia Porter's narration that you may be better off reading the book. I don't think so. I liked the narration. BUT, then again, I have never particularly liked Davinia Porter's narration. I much prefer Geraldine James who narrates the abridged versions. I really, really had a hard time listening to the first book (A Breath of Snow and Ashes) that I purchased with her narration. As a matter of fact, I quit listening and bought the abridged version and much, much later listened to the unabridged version.
ANYWAY. . .Diana did a wonderful job with this book!! I highly recommend it!

My Favorite of the Lord John Grey

This is by far the best of the Lord John Grey books. Or, perhaps, I enjoyed it more because so much of the story centered around Jamie Fraser. I only wish it had been narrated by Davina Porter. While the narrators do a fine job with the other characters, Jamie's voice is not quite right.

Ms Gabaldon continues her wonderful books.

Would you listen to The Scottish Prisoner again? Why?

I would listen to this book again. Ms Gabaldon puts so much into each story that it requires a second listening / reading just to make sure you didn't miss something important. A small thing now could be developed into something in the next book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is James Frazier. Big surprise. I enjoy that she has made him an honorable, trustworthy, loyal person/spouse. He is exactly the friend you would want.

Which character – as performed by Jeff Woodman and Rick Holmes – was your favorite?

Both gentlemen did a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would have to read the book again to properly answer this question.

This was a great book & the narration was not bad

What did you like best about this story?

Its an extention of the Outlander series and I love all of it.

What about Jeff Woodman and Rick Holmes ’s performance did you like?

I think the narration was just fine, (as always) Jeff Woodman does a great many characters so that you recognize who is speaking/thinking Rick Holmes's version of Jamie was just fine, unlike some of the other reviews stated. I had no issues with listening to the two readers.
