The Ravine

I liked everything about the book, it had a twist I didn't expect, it was well written and well read

First time author for me, debut novel for the author. I first heard about this book when I heard a radio interview where the author described the circumstances behind the book. It turns out the basis for the book is based on a true story that included his wife and he. It happened in the Kansas City area, not Ohio as described in the book, and his wife was the lifelong best friend of the wife and mother in the book. Due to legal reason and potential marketing reason for a possible future movie some of the details of the book were changed and, therefore, it is a work of fiction.

After hearing the interview I checked and saw it was on audible. But I wasn't sure I wanted to listen to a book where a man kills his wife and child then kills himself then leaves everyone else to try and understand it. The book was released in 2015 and there were only 12 ratings on the book so it must not be that good, right? But something about it wouldn't let me totally erase it from my mind. In the end I bought it thinking it's only 7 hours so why not?

It turns out the book was pretty good. It is a story of forgiveness.

Great Story

WOW!! I really enjoyed this book. I was instantly caught up in the story waiting for the next chapter to appear. it was definitely a great book. I wheels recommend it to anyone who may struggle with trying to understand The Mind of God and how His views are not ours. Spiritual Warfare if not just an idea, but real life, any I enjoyed how the author presented everything in this book.

Poor imitation of The Shack

What disappointed you about The Ravine?

The book presents an ABC of Christian belief as if its a revolutionary thought. The book therefore builds to a climax that is a duh!
The author tries to emulate The Shack which deals with the subject, radical forgiveness, with creativity and power.
