Seventy-three-year-old ex-poker player Axel Speeter has one more winner-take-all hand to play with a pair of crooks who are after the $260,000 he keeps squirreled away in his room at the Motel 6. A New York Times Book Review Notable Book for 1996.
What a fun story! Loved the narrator and all the voices he does for the characters! I happened to really like Axel, the main character for this book so it was fun rooting for him and his people at the taco shop. Had some hilarious moments too. Not outstanding, but very enjoyable, especially for me as a transplant to Minnesota.
