Editorial Reviews

Gruff-voiced James Whitmore, sighing heavily at intervals, performs this classic Western by genre writer Zane Grey with aplomb, bringing a good old-fashioned air of cowboy stoicism to this tale of death, gambling, and gun-slinging.

The Maverick Queen tells the story of Linc Bradway, a man driven by the untimely death of his friend to seek revenge in a town so steeped in crime he might even find himself in over his head. Whitmore’s performance is staid and matter-of-fact, his steady tones rising only occasionally to a sharp crescendo, but his grounded and unhurried approach to narration creates an enjoyable tension with the shoot-‘em-up action of this genuine Wild West tale.

Publisher's Summary

After his partner is killed during a card game, Linc Bradway goes to South Pass, Wyoming, to find the killer. But South Pass is overrun with gamblers and gunslingers, and Bradway's search leads him straight into the bloody action - where he finds he's going to need much more than a gun to stay alive.
