Publisher's summary

John Saul is at his terrifying best as he takes listeners into the vast, dark labyrinth of tunnels beneath Manhattan, home to a bizarre collection of outcasts, and introduces a secret society that uses (and stocks) this underworld as a private hunting ground, with its residents as their prey.

When 21-year-old NYU student Jeff Converse is convicted of a brutal rape and murder that he did not commit, his nightmare has just begun. Jeff is just the latest innocent man to be made a target of the society that controls the underground hell called the Manhattan Hunt Club.

A prestigious club near Wall Street, its membership includes many of the city's political and financial elite. Bored with more conventional sport, some of the MHC members can't resist secretly indulging their desire to hunt the most dangerous game in the world: humans.

Good

Just spent some time in NYC, and this book was a great follow-up. Great story and idea. Saul is a bit wordy though...there is such thing as too much character development of minor characters.

Wow is this not a narration

Would you try another book from John Saul and/or David Daoust?

I do enjoy John Saul books while simple have some great creep factor and very imaginative.

If you’ve listened to books by John Saul before, how does this one compare?

I have read John Saul but not listened to one. It is my wife's favorite of his books. The book seems to be good.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Stutters and chooses strange voices for the characters, pauses all the time.

Could you see The Manhattan Hunt Club being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not sure how to answer that.

Bad edits, duplicate reading

Good story, horrible editing. Did the narrator change mid read? If so, second reader better. Narrator re-reads parts.

Great story

I loved the story and how everything was connected. The narrator wasn’t so good. His character voices were just strange. This book reminded me of the movies Hostile or Hunt. I honestly would not be surprised if this was based around some truth of what actually goes on in real life.

ehh...not all that!

This was an OK story. Not like the scary stories that he usually puts out.
The narrarator sucked big time! His voices for Jinx sounded just weird. And lines would always repeat at certain parts, but repeat in an entire different tone from the last time. -as if a new narrarator had taken over. Im like huh? Did he quit and start back up on different days? So yup...take your chances on a tale about the homeless who live underground in NYC.

The story by iteself was excellent

What did you love best about The Manhattan Hunt Club?

It was a fantastic story. I read it as a kid and when I saw it on here, I couldn't wait to read it again!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Manhattan Hunt Club?

Meeting the homeless man that was shy and stole purses.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of David Daoust?

Almost anyone! While his narration was fantastic, his imitation of voices were TERRIBLE! It almost turned me off to the book. Some whined, women talked like men...it was horrible. But his narration otherwise was good. There was a lot of dialog in the book though.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Teen gets kidnapped and hunted by top members of NYC society.

Any additional comments?

It was a good book, my only complaint was how the narrator voiced out the women and children.

GREAT BOOK. BAD READING

absolutely love the book I read it before I heard it was excited when I ordered it to be able to hear it via Audible however the narrator showed zero emotion no transition into chapters and quite honestly irritated me to know in. it's just a good thing that the book was absolutely amazing otherwise I would have returned it

Story good, narrator ruins it

The storyline is interesting and well written, although I admit I am only halfway finished. I don't know if I will finish it. The problem is the Reader.
His regular reading voice is fine. But his character's voices are horrible. Very cartoonish, they almost all sound like Elmer Fudd.
If the Reader is doing something that takes your attention off of the story, he is failing to do his job.
