Publisher's summary

Osama bin Laden is dead.
Saddam Hussein is buried.
Baghdad lies in ruins.

Now the eyes of the world are on Jerusalem as Jon Bennett - a Wall Street strategist turned senior White House advisor - his beautiful CIA partner Erin McCoy, and the U.S. Secretary of State arrive in the Middle East to meet with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

On the table: a dramatic and potentially historic Arab-Israeli peace plan, of which Bennett is the chief architect. At the heart of the proposed treaty is the discovery of black gold deep underneath the Mediterranean - a vast and spectacular tract of oil and natural gas that could offer unprecedented riches for every Muslim, Christian, and Jew in Israel and Palestine.

But in the shadows lie men whose hearts are filled with evil - men who do not relish a post-Saddam era, men for whom the prospect of a Palestinian peace accord with Israel goes against everything for which their fathers have fought and died. Such men - and the countries that finance them - are ready to do anything necessary to slaughter those who stand in their way.

The clock is ticking. Can Bennett, McCoy, and the American president make peace before the Middle East once again erupts in war?

Critic reviews

"The story is rich with detail, topical references, interesting characters, and logical conclusions. Reader Patrick G. Lawlor does an admirable job in keeping the action flowing." ( AudioFile)

An excellent listen

This book is the second in the series. Rosenberg presents a rivetting fictional account of the holy war and America's struggle to bring peace in a fast-changing, caotic world. Politics, religion, suspense and thrill are interwoben in a way that made me think and want to learn more. Maybe just a little unbelievable how much the characters go through and survive; maybe a little corny, but very good.
I like how his mind works, and look forward to reading the next book of the series and a nonfiction book of his.

Just Finished and Ready To Order Third Book

Another page turner from Rosenberg. You feel that you are in the middle of a gripping tale from the first few pages. Part three, here I come.

good story but too much back story.

I listened to this series before but abridged. abridged usually like the unabridged, so I started to listen to the unabridged. Too much unnecessary crap that does not add to the story. stick with the abridged.

Good

Of course, if you're reading the series, you'll read this one. I am not a huge fan of it, but it does get very exciting at the end. I feel like the others in the series are better but gotta get through this one as part of the process.

Great followup to the first installation

Would you listen to The Last Days again? Why?

Though current events have made the events somewhat stale, this is still a very engaging 'read'. For those that follow the likes of Jack Bauer, Mitch Rapp, etc this book may interest you, though the main character is a political advisor and not an agent of a government agency. Sure he gets in the action, but it's a bit different. Good action, engaging characters - reccomended.

Don't waste your money or credits

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

a performer who knows how to read and has a decent voice.

What was most disappointing about Joel C. Rosenberg’s story?

everything

How could the performance have been better?

having someone with voice and talent do it

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Last Days?

They were all indistinguishable from each other

Any additional comments?

I wasted a credit and several hours trying to suffer thru it.

Better than Book 1

I really enjoyed the political aspects of everything. It really was action-filled (which felt a bit much in the beginning). Three major action scenes that Joel elongated, from my perspective at least. Beyond that, it was awesome. The performance was way better than book 1!

Too long & too many unnecessary details

This is my 5th Rosenberg book & was, by far, the lesser of the other 4. The performance by Lawler is not very good…doesn’t do well with multiple voices.
Im not going to use credits to listen to remaining in this series.

Least favorite in the series

Nice action for a few minutes in the beginning. Then you have the next 90% of the story as boring. Then the last 30 minutes the story goes to action again. 10% action. 90% boring details. This is the least favorite book in the series.

I have a decent vocabulary, but

I don’t have the words to describe how terrible this is.

I thought his first book the last jihad was OK. This book will deplete your neurons so that you are more ignorant and stupid by the time you finish then you were at the beginning. Yes to be fair I read the whole damn thing. I’ll never read the kind of bloviation This author writes again. And I’ll never listen to the narrator as I would rather spend a dark night listening to fingernails screeching on a blackboard.

I’ve read other views that characterize this as having a good plot or good storylines, and etc. All I can surmise is the reviewers are either reading a different book than I did, or something else. You choose.

If you have a chance to read an abridged version that’s your second best choice your first best choice is to drop this book in the nearest outhouse and Count your blessings.
