Publisher's summary

The lake was flat and calm with barely a ripple; its dark waters glistening, reflecting the moonlight as though it were a mirror.

Fritz Marschall knew that neither he, nor his friend, should really have been there. They, like many others before them, had been attracted to the lake by the many rumors that had been circulating. He thought of the endless stories there had been, of treasures sunken in or buried around the lake. He recalled the stories of the lake being used to develop torpedoes and rockets during the war. Looking out across the dark water, he wondered what secrets were hidden beneath the surface.

Good Story, but...

I had high hopes for this title after reading the book description. It started off great too but as soon as you get a little ways into the first chapter the sound effects started and it was very distracting. For some reason the producers incorporated sound effects with every single mention of noise in the story and I could not concentrate on the story itself. I do like sound effects when used sparingly, (as to not take away from the story) throughout an audiobook but I think this was overkill. The performance and story were very good but there were parts I had to rewind and listen to even 3 times due to the sound effects. I could not get a good flow going with this audiobook and this just got me frustrated at some points. I liked the voices that the narrator gave the characters and the storyline was interesting. I think I would rate this much higher if the sound effects were taken out. It did have many good qualities and this was my kind of story too, perhaps that is why I held it so high? I am not sure but release another recorded version without the sound effects and I think I could give this a better and more proper rating. I received a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review via Audiobook Boom. This in no way affected my opinion.

Great Book and very entertaining

With a mixture of fact and fiction this work presents the listener with a very enjoyable adventure with a premise that may have
a great deal of truth.

The Narrator helps make the Book even more interesting and keeps you glued to your electronic gizmo to anticipate the next
chapter.

The characters are well crafted and make the story a good read.

Good Story Slightly Marred By Sound Effects

I though this was a solid story which was well delivered by the narrator but like another reviewer... I also found some of the sound effects a little jarring. I think if I were John, I'd take them out if this ever gets re-recorded. This is a two time line story and I liked the way they unfolded together and showed you the interconnections without telling you. That's very important to me. As for the actual plot, I haven't listened to (or read) a book like this in years, it's got a lot of retro-charm to it and I wouldn't want to give anything away but you're going to enjoy the way things go. Please note: I solicited and received a review copy of this. However, my opinion is still my own and was not influenced in any way by the author or narrator.

A Good read / listen

The Kammersee Affair, I've read the ebook version and when offered the chance to listen to the audiobook jumped at it.
John Holts first novel I believe, the concept of the story is great - a search for Nazi gold after the war.
A good adventure story and a good read - though the style of writing is a little dated compared to some high powered thrillers of recent years. Reminiscent of Alistair MacLeans novels.
I enjoyed the ebook and enjoyed the audiobook, Highly recommend either.
The narration is clear and easy to listen to.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.

Vivid and entrancing

On the pages of this book a cast of characters came alive, some very different from each other they all felt real. The descriptions of the setting let the book play out like a movie in my mind. The characters and settings combined into a book I couldn't stop listening to.

The story unfolds in two different times and there are a lot of different elements that interconnect, it made the book a tapestry of elements and people all woven together.

The narrator did great character voices, they were distinct and easy to recognize, and the delivery was dynamic and used tone effectively to accentuate the emotions in each scene.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

interesting plot.

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

I enjoyed this book, found the plot interesting. The narrator did a fairly good job except when he was reading the parts for the Germans in the story. The writing was not the best or worst, sort of in the middle of the road. One thing I did not like was the sound effects throughout the book.

Great Read

The Kammersee Affair was another good read by John Holt.Fritz Marschall knows they should not be at the lake but they are all attracted by the many rumors about the lake. There are many stories of treasures sunken in or buried around the lake. The lake was also being used to develop torpedoes and rocket during the war. This is the story of the search for hidden Nazi gold. There's murder, blackmail, and revenge. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

intense and compelling

From present day to flashbacks provides the backstories, and I found it suspenseful and interesting as I followed along. Multilayered and intriguing! Just enough reality and facts to mingle nicely with the fiction provides an edge of you seat book. I loved when all the lies crumbled and only the cold truth remained. Not pretty, but
necessary answers. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did an excellent job with voices and expressions and background music/sounds to bring in all to life.

Gold

I loved this book because it covered war, buried treasure, and four young military officers, all brothers, during WW2. I say, listen to this book, without shedding a tear. Outstanding writer John Holt, outstanding.
