Publisher's summary

The Giving of Things Cold & Cursed is a haunting tale by critically acclaimed horror author Terry M. West. Baker Johnson is a flawed parapsychologist in the year 1925. After the death of Richard Johnson, Baker inherits his uncle's estate and moves into the legendary psychic researcher's home. But he soon discovers that the Black Room of the property, the place where haunted items are safely contained, has been emptied. This is a brand-new and never-before-published short story.

Included is a lengthy preview of a brand-new Baker Johnson story, "Servant of the Red Quill", which is coming soon!

Critic reviews

"( The Giving of Things Cold & Cursed is) beautifully written, superbly edited and trying to explain the incredible depth of aesthetic in this particular short is like trying to explain the virtues of a well aged Scotch vs moonshine..." ( The Horror Nation)

Reminiscent of Poe

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

West keeps surprising me with his versatility. I have been following his work for some time now and he never disappoints. From gore to period horror fiction he masterly creates his prose. This short story set in the year 1925 is reminiscent of Poe’s work. Baker Johnson is to inherit a room full of haunted objects. Each object weaves its own distinct and terrifying consequence. Narrator Jason Mills brings The Giving Of Things Cold & Cursed to life keeping the voice of each character distinct and interesting.

Great short horror

This is a short horror story about the hauntings that can occur due to the energies/spirits in objects. West is great at getting you hooked quickly and delivering both story and chills in a short period. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

I Need... No Demand More Like This From West

This is quite a bit different from the typical Terry M. West story, and I think he really nailed it. I liked the setting, the tone, the characters, everything about it. I think he really summoned some classic writers when he put this together and my only complaint is that I don't think this should have been a single shot and needed to be a full story. Docked one star for that reason solely. I felt like I was looking at a world though a very small aperture and didn't get the full picture, even thought I liked everything I saw. When you listen to Cecil and Bubba and then hear this, you kinda do a quick check of the audible author as this is story is worlds apart and this is the writing that I really hope West continues with.

Jason Mills did a good job with the narration. He had the perfect voice for the type of story and his voice was fit all of it correctly. Solid performance for a solid short story.

The Giving of Things Cold & Cursed

I think I would like this more if I read more of the Baker Johnson stories. It was good but seemed like filler in an overall story. I am completely open to reading more of these so that is a plus.

Awesome

I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. An uncle dies leaving behind his estate, but is there more than a few physical things? A room of mystery suddenly emptied what was in there?

Ummm Ok

Not sure why all the 5 stars, but I guess they heard & know more than I did & do.

I wonder if ppl just put out 5 stars & good reviews because they are trying to help someone with sales. I didn't think this was that great & it had a very hard time holding my interest.

The narrator wasn't real bad, but either his mic isn't great or his program isn't great.....but he sounded as if he was talking through a tin can or from inside a empty closet. He has a great voice & speaks very clearly, also without mistakes.

I could not recommend this book to ppl.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I am providing this honest review.
