Publisher's summary

They were the leaders, the men who made the decisions that change the outcome of battles... and the fate of continents. From the awesome landing at Normandy to the torturous campaigns of the South Pacific, from the frozen hills of Korea to the devastated wastes of Dien Bien Phu, they had earned their stars. Now they led America’s finest against her most relentless enemy deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia. It was a new kind of war, but the Generals led a new kind of army, ready for battle - and glory....

Critic reviews

“A major work... magnificent... powerful. If books about warriors and the women who love them were given medals for authenticity, insight and honesty, The Brotherhood of War would be covered with them.” (William Bradford Hule)

Soap opera for men

I have really enjoyed this series by W. E. B. Griffin. The character development is great and the narrator, Eric G Dove is very good. This entire series has been like a soap opera for men. I find myself getting attached to some characters and not liking others. There is plenty of military action but there is also some of the day to day stuff that happens in life. The descriptions of the day to day life in the military is very accurate and the details are spot on. The narrator gets most of his terminology right and keeps his characters in their unique style of voice throughout the series. If you're a military history buff or just looking for a good series to start give this one a try.

Outstanding!

Another excellently woven story. I appreciate the history, humor, and honor in which this tale was told. Much respect to the Greatest Generation.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. Other than a couple of factual errors (for example, C5As could not been involve in Operation Monte Christo in 1969 since first one did not enter regular service until 1970. But that’s just the nerd in me), I loved the details he provides.

I did note considerable similarities between Lt. Col Lowe from this series and Lt. Col. Charlie Castillo from the Presidential Agent series. I wonder if that was intentional.

Excellent, though the ending felt abrupt

I have adored listening to this series, following the various characters introduced in book 1, and also enjoying those brought in at different points and even with this 6th book in the series. The vivid characters and suspenseful stories and plots woven throughout kept me constantly wanting to listen. I am disappointed, though, that this book which seems to lead into a transition of characters in the Brotherhood of War, gives minimal insights into how their stories end and none about their collective ties to one another. I sincerely hope I am wrong and that some characters will bridge into the remaining books of the series, but the character summaries in the epilogue suggest otherwise.

Great ending of the Craig Lowell era.

I am a huge fan of W.E.B. Griffin's military series which started for me with "The Corps". This series is no exception. Following Craig Lowell from a post WW2 PFC through all the people he interacts with to his final time as a Lt. Colonel of the Vietnam war is enthralling.
That being said, for the first time I was a little put off by some mistakes in the details of the weapons used given the previous attention to these very details. Mistakes such as referring to the M16a3 as a "shortened, pistol gripped version of the M16a2" and the M72 grenade launchers as firing "70mm" grenades stand out as glaring errors to anyone who served during or shortly after the the time period covered by this book.

Great Series

Throughly enjoyed the series!!

Truly wonderful character development and lots of very accurate military nomenclature.

I appreciated the vignettes about Viet Nam as a combat veteran of that War and former UH-1 Huey pilot.
