Publisher's Summary

To stay sane, Andie Tilly must keep her mind on her work. Her job as a pediatric occupational therapist is the perfect distraction from the unspeakable tragedy she experienced as a child. But when she meets alternative-energy magnate Rhys Griffiths and his autistic toddler, Will, she quickly realizes her heart will never be the same. Especially when her name becomes Will's first word.

After accepting a position as a live-in therapist for Will, Andie steels herself against the appeal of the disconcertingly attractive - and attracted - Rhys. But their chemistry can no longer be denied, and their heated affair seems destined for happily ever after. A destiny Andie's terrified to embrace.

When Andie's guilt, Rhys's awkwardness, and the abrupt appearance of an erratic ex threaten to dismantle their delicately blooming relationship, they must decide if love is worth the challenge. Can Andie and Rhys find their way back to each other? Or will the demons of the past simply prove too strong?

Great for Ronance Lovers!

I enjoyed the narrator. She has a great voice, really separated the characters, and acted out the mood of each characters voice exquisitely. The story is fun, with just enough angst and romance.

interesting and informative

If you desire a book that not only entertains but also subtly informs you, this is your book. The characters are flawed and each have their own character progression. Many issues and conditions are given the spotlight and a deserving modicum of facts. If you are looking for a lighter romp through the non-fiction tomes then look elsewhere or challenge yourself a little bit.

Very mediocre, kind of annoying

The book would have been better with 2 narrators. The valley girl voice grew very irritating. I struggled to fijnish this book. Also, the characters had no depth and I didn't feel like the main character was very likeable. Furthermore, the sex scenes in a story that centers around a special needs child was disturbing. I won't listen to anything by this narrator or author again.

Insightful and Sweet!

As Autism is my area of specialty, I enjoyed how the author wove it in.

WOW!

If you could sum up The First Word in three words, what would they be?

Real. In-Depth. Excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

The full development and descriptions of the characters. The reality of living with negative messages and experiences from a traumatic childhood and the bravery and persistence of the young adult woman as she grabs onto her life and keeps heading for good things.

Which character – as performed by Amy McFadden – was your favorite?

All were good.

Any additional comments?

Amy McFadden is one of my favorite narrators. Her voice, paired with the beautifully written descriptive text and story line made this book a real treasure. I will be listening to it several times.
