Publisher's Summary

"I came to this town to kill my brother. Instead, I find myself weeping over his grave."

Eldrid Cole is a man who hunts what other men fear. In a land where the dead don't rest, there are few surprises left for him. But when a mysterious horror begins preying on the villagers of the northern coast, the carnage is worse than anything Eldrid has ever seen.

Determined to put an end to this murderous rampage, Eldrid pursues the nameless thing in a bitter race from one shattered town to the next. As Eldrid draws ever closer to his goal, the ghosts of his past loom large. Can he overcome the pain and regret of his memories and face this most terrible foe? Or will he succumb to both and be lost to death or madness?

Includes a special preview of Alan MacRaffen's science fiction novel: Carnival of Time.

The Doom of Eldrid Cole is set in author Chris Philbrook's world of Elmoryn: a vast dark fantasy playground where the spirits are ever present, and the dead ever hungry.

"WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR HORSE?"

    Answer: HORSE
Good world building, I am interested. I had noticed Chris Philbrock's books, but I just figured they were another of the many zombie books. This has gotten me interested in the world he has built. It was a little overly descriptive in parts, but over all was a good read. I would also like to say that any writer who writes about someone having cracked ribs and than getting up and doing anything physical, has never had cracked ribs.

PS, how do all these people get free copies?

"Great short story with a good spin"

This was my first introduction to his worlds and I loved it. I would very much like to read more by this author. Captivating story. Connected with the characters right away. Listening speed optimal at 1.25 good narrator as well. Kept the pace of the story and kept your attention. I received this audiobook from the author narrator or the publisher for free via audiobookblast in exchange for an unbiased review.

    "Horror Fantasy"

An awesome short story about a man haunted by his past as he searches for his brother and a monster. Good fantasy with a touch of inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft.

The narrator James Foster put in another solid performance. I would highly recommend this book.

    "A Credit Worthy Short Story!"

What a great little story! I usually have a hard time with short stories because in my humble opinion, they often seem rushed and unfinished, but The Doom of Eldrid Cole was not like that at all! Alan MacRaffen did a fantastic job with this one! The story was consistent and flowed well and the narration was superb (though I expected it would be considering James Foster is one of my favorite narrators). I'm intrigued and want more so I will now be pre-ordering the first audible in Chris Philbrooks "Elmoryn The Kinless Trilogy". Even though this title is only a little over 2 hours long, it is worth the credit or purchase! I was incredibly lucky to have this audiobook provided to me by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.

    "Awesome, Simply stunning!"

The narrator was very good at giving the book an accurate tone while reading, the book was beautifully written, and the Narrator was awesome at bringing the story to life. I hope the Author decides to continue the story! I did notice a few times where the incorrect term was used, like when talking about Eldrid's sister at one point, the narrator said his or he or something like that... but I'm being extremely nit picky but otherwise really well written story!

"Feel Like there's More to the Story"

Can't help thinking there is a lot of backstory and history that could be fleshed out to make this a full novel. It's got a lot of promise but leaves a lot of questions unanswered when the story ends. Who are the Cole's? What happened to them? What is the land that Eldrid is wandering through? How will Eldrid beat the beast? What is the societal structure of the world Eldrid lives in? What has he been doing in his wanderings?

I was fully invested in this story and enjoyed it immensely...I was just left wanting more when it ended! It feels like it started in the middle of a thought and ends in the middle of a thought.

Love James Foster's narration, as always!

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Boom! in exchange for an honest review.

"A Perfect Combo Of Mystery, Action And Fantasy"
    Any additional comments?

“The Doom of Eldrid Cole” is a fabulous short story by Alan MacRaffen set in the world of author Chris Philbrook’s Elmoryn. I didn’t know you could even do that. “That,” being one author writing a story for commercial publication and profit that’s set in the established world of another author’s work. Interesting. That aside, “The Doom of Eldrid Cole” is easily one of the best short stories I’ve ever read/listened to. From the story’s first two sentences, (“I came to this town to kill my brother. Instead, I find myself weeping over his grave.”) I was hooked like a text book example from a creative writing classes. The great thing, though, is that the rest of MacRaffen’s story is every bit as strong as his opening sentences. He not only doesn’t let off the gas, but he instead, floors it, creating and maintaining that feeling of not wanting to put a book down until you finish it. I had that feeling all the way through to the end or the story and once I actually did finished the story, I was left wanting more.

In addition to the story itself, narrator James Foster does an absolutely wonderful job bringing the audio to life. I really consider him one of the very top tier audio book talents working today. While there are others that I feel are as good as Mr. Foster, there certainly aren’t any who are better.

As someone who has never read anything by Mr. MacRaffen, this work was the perfect thing to start with because after finishing “The Doom of Eldrid Cole” I’m now very interested in checking out everything else he’s written. The one great dissappointment for me is that I can’t find any more Eldrid Cole stories. I sincerely hope Mr. MacRaffen will compose more soon.

Finally, this audio book was provided by author Chris Philbrook at no cost in exchange for an honest review, courtesy of Audio Book Blast.
