Solid western

It has been a long time since I have read a western, and this was a solid and entertaining way to ease back into the genre. The writing was skilled, the plot and main characters all enjoyable, and while nothing in the story was ground breaking, it certainly kept me entertained while waiting for my flight. Some of the descriptions were a bit unpolished, and some dialogue was stilted, but those are minor things that did not take away from the story in any capacity. I am looking forward to listening to more stories in the series, and to seeing how Nation's writing evolves.

I would be remiss if I did not compliment Bennett in his reading: his voice was absolutely perfect for a western story, and he delivered a truly excellent performance.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book ,the beginning start off so sad but the ending was great . I will be reading more of his books I received this book free from the author, narrator and or publisher for a honest review and unbiased option via audio books boom

The Devil's Brand: A Great New Western Series

I really enjoy a good western listen. This one was no exception. It had great characters and although it isn't listed as historical fact, I was able to identify with many locations in the Kansas setting. What I'd like to see in the future of this series is the characters more fleshed out. Seth Nation did a super job with this story.

J. Scott Bennett is such an exceptional voice actor. I can't sing his praises enough. His performance was flawless and his voice puts you right in the mix of the action. He made this a nice and easy listen.

This is a developing saga of revenge in the traditional western style. Ethan Brody comes home after service during the Civil War to find his wife and family slaughtered, his farm destroyed. He will go to the ends of the earth to exact revenge!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Devil's Brand?

When Ethan finds his dream of home and loved ones killed.

Which scene was your favorite?

There are several. When the villians (there are several major villians) are confronted and revenge is exacted.

If you could rename The Devil's Brand, what would you call it?

Palomino Rider defending those that have been wronged.

This was a satisfying listen in the tradition of all good westerns. It is further enhanced by J. Hell of a good ride

The Devils brand is a bad mamma jamma of a wild western. This is book 2 of a series. I haven’t read the first, but I will be now that heard this one. I have to say I think my favorite character was Dukes, he was a real stand out in the book.

This is gunslinging and its finest and Sheriffing at its best. I wish they still made movies like this.

My boy Scott Bennett rocks this book. He is one of my favorite narrators, who I haven’t heard in quite some time, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear him once again.

Give this book a shot. No pun intended.

Great Western

For a first novel Seth Nation hit it out of the park in my opinion. Great job introducing the characters and the in depth details on the story bring you right in from the start. Looking forward to The Riders story to continue

Entertaining Western

What did you love best about The Devil's Brand?

I really enjoyed the nostalgic feelings from the book. It evoked memories of old school western novels and movies. It had a good amount of action and standard western tropes but mixed it up with new ideas.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Devil's Brand?

Hard to say without spoiling but let's just say when the Katy's get what's coming to them. No one likes a bully.

What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think the narrator added a good pacing to the story and his use of changing voices for different characters kept it all flowing well.

If you could take any character from The Devil's Brand out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oliver Kingston Dukes. He seems like he would be amazing and entertaining company.

The action never stops

It is great to find a new western author and book. This is Seth Nation’s first book. He plans on making this into a series.

Our hero is Ethan Brody. The year is 1865. The Civil War has just ended and Ethan is returning home. Some Confederate deserters go on a bloody rampage along the Kansas-Missouri boarder. Ethan returns home to find his home in ashes; his parents, brother and wife murdered. Ethan goes after the confederate killers.

Nation is using a standard western formula for his story. We have definite good and evil throughout the story. The book is well written, full of action and the author includes some history about the Kansas-Missouri border area. This is a great start for a new author. I am looking forward to more stories in this series and from this author.

J. Scott Bennett does a good job narrating the book. Bennett is an Air Force veteran who is a middle school teacher and an audiobook narrator. I find this most interesting as most narrators’ primary job are acting. Bennett has a tenor voice and I have a preference for a baritone voice to read westerns. Bennett does a good job narrating; it is just that I like the baritone voice for westerns.
