Publisher's summary

Five years ago, Tia fell into obsessive love with a man she could never have. Married, and the father of two boys, Nathan was unavailable in every way. When she became pregnant, he disappeared, and she gave up her baby for adoption.

Five years ago, Caroline, a dedicated pathologist, reluctantly adopted a baby to please her husband. She prayed her misgivings would disappear; instead, she’s questioning whether she’s cut out for the role of wife and mother.

Five years ago, Juliette considered her life ideal: She had a solid marriage, two beautiful young sons, and a thriving business. Then she discovered Nathan’s affair. He promised he’d never stray again, and she trusted him.

But when Juliette intercepts a letter to her husband from Tia that contains pictures of a child with a deep resemblance to her husband, her world crumbles once more. How could Nathan deny his daughter? And if he’s kept this a secret from her, what else is he hiding? Desperate for the truth, Juliette goes in search of the little girl. And before long, the three women and Nathan are on a collision course with consequences that none of them could have predicted.

Riveting and arresting, The Comfort of Lies explores the collateral damage of infidelity and the dark, private struggles many of us experience but rarely reveal.

I really enjoyed this

I like it when there are a few characters and we get to hear all of their perspectives. As always for me, in the beginning it's hard to remember who is who, but once I got over it, I really liked the story. Very engaging.

Not One Interesting Character

This is my second novel by this author and while I loved the first novel, The Murderer's Daughters, this novel lacked in everything that the first one had. The reader's voice was downright obnoxious especially in her portrayal of the Jewish New Yorker, there was not one likeable character, and the storyline was predictable and trivial. This novel reminded me of a bad dramatic television show. I finished the novel entirely but OMG, it almost hurt to listen to this especially after having enjoyed the author's first novel so much.

Very Rushed

This book had a lot of potential but it moved very quickly. When an event or situation was going to happen, instead of explaining and describing (essentially, story telling) we were merely informed that it happened. For example in major turning points and important occurrences, we never knew what was said, how characters felt or thought during, it would build up to that moment and then the next scene would simply say "after I confessed to him" rather than telling us the story of the actual confession and how the characters reacted. It could've developed better and provided more story and detail but it was a lot o"overview" - it's hard to explain, but the book was ok, just not the best.

Hated one of the Characters!!!

Would you try another book from Randy Susan Meyers and/or Amy McFadden?

I absolutely hated Tia. I didn't like her accent and I DID NOT like her personality. I thought this book had a great concept. But I could not get over the the hating Tia part. She was selfish and annoying. I think the narrator did a wonderful job on making the three different characters feel different from one another. When it was Caroline I knew and when it was Juliet I knew. I do not know if I would have liked this book better if I had read it. Maybe I couldn't hear the selfishness in Tia's voice. All I know is that I hated her.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The concept. Three different women intertwined. Not just intertwined, but directly related. One of a wife, one the mistress of the wife's husband, and the other the adopter of the mistress's love child.

What character would you cut from The Comfort of Lies?

TIA!
