Publisher's summary

When tall, pretty Kelly interviews at Washington D.C.’s premier LGBT-centric lobbying firm, she claims she has a girlfriend. Nothing could be further from the truth; she’s never even kissed a girl. Kelly’s hired. However, a suspicious co-worker keeps inquiring about her girlfriend. To keep her lies straight, Kelly bases her fictional partner on Anna, an aggressive, gorgeous lesbian friend of a friend. But when the firm’s annual Christmas party looms, Kelly’s forced to produce her mysterious girlfriend. The real Anna agrees to be Kelly’s "beard" - her fake date. But at the party, alcohol flows... and Anna’s all over Kelly. Kelly pretends to her office mates that her "girlfriend’s" advances are perfectly normal - even as she feels her resistance to the beautiful woman melting away.

The Beard is a comedy with sexy scenes and some explicit sections.

Entertaining and Sexy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. For a short story, it was well written and funny. Not to mention very sexy and erotic.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anna. She was bold and sexy and I loved the accent.

Which scene was your favorite?

Actually there's two. The first was when Anna confronted Sylvia and the second was when Anna dragged Kelly into the bathroom. "However, whenever. Remember?"

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It was too short to be moved.

Any additional comments?

Well done, funny and sexy. The distinction between the characters was very well done. The only real draw back is that it was way too short. Less than 100 pages. I read stories that weren't have has good but twice as long. Tillie Hooper did an amazing job. The southern accent of Anna's was so sexy it gave me goose bumps.

The Beard is an amazing Book that makes you laugh

Where does The Beard rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks very high, not as high as Radclyffe, but almost up there with a B+ book grade. It makes you laugh out load so be careful where you listen to it, you will find yourself at least smiling wickedly if not busting a gut in some parts of the book. I totally enjoyed the Beard.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kelly has to be my favorite character but the whole book centers around her, still you could make an argument for Anna to be the star character in the story, Anna is wickedly funny and bold beyond belief. Still it's Kelly that I find myself identifying with even though she starts out as straight, something that I have never been. Still her insecurities and her crazy ways I can understand. Her reaction to the office snoop Silvia and her just total reaction to things I can relate to.

What about Tillie Hooper’s performance did you like?

Her different voices, I loved the way she made Anna speak with a deep Southern Accent which worked well for her character. And I loved Kelly little voice that sounded so insecure as she went about her day.

Who was the most memorable character of The Beard and why?

I would say Anna was kinda hard to beat for her brassness. But Kelly was the star of the story. I loved the line at the end when she says, "I not sleeping on the coach am I?" You just have to give it a listen to find out what that means. It just cracked me up. And I just loved the story over all. And Kelly was a very strong character who had lots of hang ups that made her lovable.

Any additional comments?

Honestly I plan to listen to the Beard several times again just for the laughs, it really was funny and I don't think I got them all on just one run through. This is going to become one of my purple passion books I will pull out when I need a pick up.

Smiles!

If you could sum up The Beard in three words, what would they be?

Delight Nervous and Warm

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Beard?

When Kelly was on the phone with her best friend's sister I was going to just as crazy as she was.

What about Tillie Hooper’s performance did you like?

Great but she made Anna sound a little too masculine for me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, both.

A real rom/com

There're a lot of books in the rom/com category. Many fall short on the "rom" or the "com". Some fall short on both. This one hit all of the button's: funny, sweet, hot and, unlike many, didn't max out the believability index. I listen to it whenever I get tired or the drama, or the sex, or the "literary genius". It always makes me smile, sometimes I laugh out loud. Yes, it's formulaic, but so is a good triple chocolate cake. In the end it just comes down to how good it is. This one is good. Read it. Bon appétit.

Defiant Mediocrity

This novella contains a weak plot; broad unrealistic caricatures; a totally ridiculous core concept; yet I can't bring myself to dismiss it completely.
Our main character Kathy interviews for a job with an LGBT lobbying group and despite a myriad of federal regulations that would prohibit such discrimination, she believes she has to be a lesbian to work there.
Badly needing a job she invents a girlfriend by referencing a friend of a friend that she's never spoken to. There is a nosy know-it-all employee who's sure she's posing and she wastes no opportunity to announce her views to everyone within listening distance. When Kathy's boss tells her that she will be expected to produce said girlfriend at the company Christmas party she knows she has to get creative. Anna is convinced to play the part of her paramour and the resulting events at the party are as over the top teen movie like as they are unlikely. Still there is a certain likable quality to this story that makes it a worthwhile listening experience..

Cute story about A LIE

Would you consider the audio edition of The Beard to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Beard?

When Kelly had to bring her pretend lesbian girl friend to the Gay-Lesbian lobby office she works for in DC. ( She told them she had a girl friend when she applied for the job) So her friends sister who's gay got a friend ANNA to go with Kelly. And Surprise Kelly was having feelings for Anna. But when Caught by the boss in the ladies room having sex......Kelly thought she would loose her job....I won't tell any more

What about Tillie Hooper’s performance did you like?

I never heard her before but she did an ok job she gave the right emotions and reactions to what ever was happening.

Who was the most memorable character of The Beard and why?

Sylvia the office bitch who was trying to get Kelly

Any additional comments?

It was a cute story about telling a lie to get a job. And we all know it's always best to be honest because lies always have a way of catching up. I got this on sale and it was a nice cute story. Not a romance or erotica, but more about Growing up and learning experiences.
