Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown returns with a heartbreakingly hilarious novel about three women who had nothing in common, except their husband.

Leaving one widow behind is unfortunate. Leaving three widows behind is just plain despicable. Oil heiress Kate Steele knew her not-so-dearly departed husband was a con man, but she's shocked that Conrad racked up two more wives without divorcing her first. The only remnant of their miserable marriage she plans to keep is their lakeside cabin in Bootleg, Texas. Unfortunately, she's not the only woman with that idea.

Fiery, strong-willed Jamie wishes Conrad were still alive—so she could kill the scoundrel herself. But for their daughter's sake, she needs that property. As does Amanda—twenty-eight, pregnant, and still weeping over the loss of her true love. On a broiling July day, all three arrive in Bootleg...with a dogged detective right behind who's convinced that at least one of them conspired to commit murder. One momentous summer filled with revelations, quirky neighbors, and barefoot evenings on the porch offers three women the chance to make the journey from enemies to friends, and claim a bright, new beginning.

One of her best

A lovely romance showing that there is always hope and that family can be defined in many ways.

WAY to cheesy!

What three words best describe Donna Postel’s performance?

Cheesy with a lot of texas accent

Any additional comments?

I haven't finished this book yet, i have like 2 hours left but damn i couldn't stop myself from writing a review now. I was looking for a fun read after listening to What Alice Forgot (by Liane Morriarty) and this book sounded like a cliche but funny. Anyways, im disappointed. Right from the start this book was cheesy. Every word, every character, every turn of events! Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy! Not funny at all in my opinion, very predictable, and unrealistic (come on! 3 women married the same guy i can believe, but 3 women married the same guy and only seen him for one week in a whole month for years... well that's pushing it for me). The texas accent of the narrator doesn't help with the cheesiness factor haha.

Nice mix of romance

I selected this book because of the detective story line. however the romance story line was the main focus. I wasn't disappointed. while everything always works out in romance novels this story kept me going.

Love Carolyn Brown but...

This book was ruined by the narrator! I will never purchase another audiobook if she is performing it. Another of Ms. Brown's books, Lullaby Sky, was narrated by Brittany Pressley who is fantastic!
Ms. Brown (or the publisher) please don't do this to your readers/listeners!!!

A little corny and pretty predictable, but a nice pleasant read for summer. Loved the characters. Good narration. I like this author.

Conrad Was A Piece of Work--3 Wives!

Well, reading this book made me think of growing up in Oklahoma and all the hot steamy summers, It is a nice romance story with three women thrown together at the funeral of their husband. Neither of them knew of the others but Kate was less emotionally involved because she had told Conrad 'no divorce and no money' and had pretty much moved on after the first year. The story takes place in a small town in Texas. The story was sweet but too sweet for my taste. I listened to it on audible and enjoyed the accents provided by the narrator, Donna Postal, but the story was too sweet. If you like sweet romantic stories with no sex and lots of old fashioned charm, you'll love this story. I'm more into murder and mayhem. It was a nice break and would be a nice beach read.
