Publisher's Summary

Lucy and Owen, ambitious, thoroughly-therapized New Yorkers, have taken the plunge, trading in their crazy life in a cramped apartment for Beekman, a bucolic Hudson Valley exurb. They've got a 200-year-old house, an autistic son obsessed with the Titanic whose verbal ticks often sound like a broken record, and 17 chickens, at last count. It's the kind of paradise where stay-at-home moms team up to cook the school's "hot lunch," dads grill grass-fed burgers, and, as Lucy observes, "chopping kale has become a certain kind of American housewife's version of chopping wood."

When friends at a wine-soaked dinner party reveal they've made their marriage open, sensible Lucy balks. There's a part of her, though - the part that worries she's become too comfortable being invisible - that's intrigued. Why not try a short marital experiment? Six months, clear ground rules, zero questions asked. When an affair with a man in the city begins to seem more enticing than the happily-ever-after she's known for the past nine years, she must decide what truly makes her happy - "real life," or the "experiment?"

Great Story!

Very interesting story and fun concept. I breezed through the story and the narration was spot on! However the editing was pretty poor. I listen to a ton of Auto books and I have never heard so many missed edits throughout the a book. You constantly hear the Narrator repeating sentences with different "takes," at first I thought something was wrong with the file but then I realized it just wasn't edited out. It wasn't enough to distract from the entertainment of the story but it did get a bit amusing to hear it happening so much!

Great listen!

this was a great spin on appreciating what you have and that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

A funny look at middle age sex and marriage

Any additional comments?

A great and fresh premise for a novel: a married couple tries an open marriage for six months. At times laugh-out-loud funny with quirky, likable characters who have depth and a plot that's something new. A great, entertaining read.

Surprised how much I enjoyed it

It sounded interesting and that along with the positive reviews made me purchase it. I was surprised how engaging it was. It is absolutely worthy of all the positive reviews it is receiving.

really good read!

surprisingly good and could not stop listening to. So relatable in the world we live in today in regards to the marital arrangement. I would definitely recommend for a good listen to anyone interested in this particular topic. The synopsis does not do this book justice. Give it a listen. You won't regret the time you took to do so.

Decent story but annoying characters

Not a bad story, I found it fairly engrossing. However two big issues. Two of the characters are beyond obnoxious. I understand the child, Wyatt, is meant to show the strain and stress on Lucy and Owens marriage. But wow is that kid, & the voice used for the kid, annoying. Secondly, the friend, sunny bang… Could that voice be more stereotypically Asian? And someone needs to tell the editors or the producers to do their job better. At least six times during the book, the same line was repeated. Clearly the editors failed to remove one of the two takes of the same line. It became very annoying and took me out of the story because I kept wondering when it was going to happen next.

Outside of those two issues, I found it a pretty good story to listen to.

Couldn't stop listening!

My favorite narrator, Ellen Archer, kills it once again with this very entertaining and addicting story of a married couple looking to add some juicy elements to their sex lives. Naturally they don't get what the bargained for, and neither does the reader. The Arrangement is unexpected, clever, irreverent, and fun! I highly recommend this audio book. Ellen Archer always delivers a top notch performance. 5 stars all around.

Wyatt drove me insane

Book had an interesting premise, it left a few holes. But interesting. Couldn't stand the Wyatt voice, or anything about him.

Funny and insightful

A nice change from my more usual listening fare. This is humorous and insightful; great characters (especially Sunny Bang, who deserves her own book) and a sympathetic look at the challenges of marriage. Ellen Archer was perfect at giving the prose a comedic but realistic tone.
