Fun Story Diana Rowlands fans will enjoy.

This story is about a girl named Ava, an average 32 year old waitress, kind of drifting aimlessly through life. After yet another relationship epically fails, she end up swallowing the contents of her medicine cabinet. Death ensues. However, it doesnt stick. She wakes up 2 days later, smelling an amazingly good smell. Well, that smell is a dead body. Ava has turned into a ghoul, and corpses are whats on the menu. So starts a wild ride where Ava gets a Teen sidekick she saves from an abusive, much older boyfriend, a controller in the local psychic(basically the supernatural cop on the block), and en enemy in the queen of the local vampire Kiss(Coven).
Ava is a really fun character who muddles along and still manages to succeed. She is well written, with a really good inner voice. The plot moves along nicely, and has lots of room to expand the storyline. Any fans of Diana Rowland's White Trash Zombie series should really be able to sink their teeth into this series.
As far as narration, Celia Aurora de Blas does a great job differntiating the characters, giving each a distinctive voice, all while moving the narrating along well.

Ava is definitely worth getting to know.

Where does That Ghoul Ava rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I haven't listened to a lot of audiobooks but out of the few that I have heard, this was near the top in terms of the story. I really didn't much care for the narrator's voice. She didn't seem to catch the right tone for the main character. Instead of sounding like an immature 32-year-old, she sounded like a dumb blonde teenager and I don't think that is what the author probably intended.

What was one of the most memorable moments of That Ghoul Ava?

The imagery presented when Ava was all naked under the self-serve car wash lights, being hosed down by a giggling seventeen-year-old all because she got splattered with vampire glitter dust. It actually made me laugh out loud it was so absurd, which was awesome. Oh, and dead children smelling like candy. Seriously, where does the author come up with this stuff?

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I don't know that it did. The tense moments didn't seem all that tense the way the narrator read it. She just didn't resonate with the character. I think if I had read this book rather than listened to it, I would have had a more favorable opinion. There were also a couple parts where I imagine there was a break in the text to signify a new section was starting but when the narrator read it, those pauses weren't significant enough to instantly realize a new scene was starting so I had to consciously stop to think about what was happening, which then made me lose track of what I was listening to, and I had to go back thirty seconds just to listen to it again.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did actually chuckle out loud a couple of times. Some of the things the author wrote (knowing he's a male writing a female main character) were humorous. I think the parts about Ava seeing her female anatomy on video and how she at one point crossed her arms in order to push her best attributes forward were pretty much right on the money as far as seeming like they came from a female perspective. I also liked Lisa's character, although sometimes she seemed to be the far more adult of the two even though she was a solid fifteen years younger.

Any additional comments?

I didn't realize at first that this was two separate stories in one so it was a little weird how in the middle (or what I thought was the middle but was actually the next story) the main character kept referencing stuff that had just happened (but really was from the first story). Now that I see that it was two separate stories, it makes a lot more sense. So just a word of caution to anyone else reading this before they listen to the story, it's not just unnecessary repetition, it's simply the back-story for those who hadn't heard the first story. I am really looking forward to listening to the next installment of Ava's story.

i love Ava

Would you listen to That Ghoul Ava again? Why?

i loved the Ava story; i found the dark humor amazing; i love everything that T.W. Brown does. There is nothing he could write that i wouldn't read/or listen to, his writing is fantastic.

Who was your favorite character and why?

They were all pretty hilarious, but i'd have to say Ava and her naivety was thoroughly comical.

What does Celia Aurora de Blas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She made me fall asleep her voice was great it wasn't easy to listen to audiobooks it was like hearing a bedtime story from my mom..

If you could take any character from That Ghoul Ava out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Morgan she always seemed to be put out; and i found that so great. Her superiority over everyone else was so funny..

Any additional comments?

For anyone who thinks that this would be silly or not worth a read/listen i have news for you; it really is great; my husband loved it; i thought it was not going to be good; and then i folded and listened to the first one, and now i'm hooked..

Awesomely fun story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes supernatural stories. Although I don't mind reading another zombie/vampire/werewolf book, this story has a fresh and new perspective that opens up the door for unexplored possibilities. The best thing about it is that it's FUN. I immediately loved Ava, and her quirky personality.

What other book might you compare That Ghoul Ava to and why?

Well, not to any of the other T.W. Brown books I've read. The one thing it keeps reminding me of for some reason is the show Lost Girl...

Which scene was your favorite?

So many scenes stand out in such a short book, but I really liked when Ava first woke up to her new... condition...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book all in one sitting!

Any additional comments?

This book is pretty light on the gore, although does deal with adult situations and themes. The only reason this book got knocked one star for the performance was something that happened early on. The reader didn't differentiate the characters voices hardly at all, and a spot of dialogue was really confusing to follow who was speaking. This flaw seemed to disappear by the end of the book.

A ghoulish good book!!!

If you could sum up That Ghoul Ava in three words, what would they be?

Funny, awesome and entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of That Ghoul Ava?

Glitter dust LOL!! After the Twilight comment in the beginning :)

Have you listened to any of Celia Aurora de Blas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first e-book.

Who was the most memorable character of That Ghoul Ava and why?

Ava, She can't always 'get' the word she wants to say, how often has that happened to you and me? She's a regular gal with the same problems we have she's just dead now. Her attitude is priceless!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. I love the whole zombie, vampire genre and now I have another thing to add to it. This is a short book at 2 hours, you can listen to it while cleaning house, I did, and it made the time fly. Thank you for a great story!
