Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of Before We Were Yours comes a heartfelt novel about the bonds of family and the power of second chances.

When Kate Bowman temporarily moves to her grandmother’s Missouri farm with her husband and baby son, she learns that the lessons that most enrich our lives often come unexpectedly. The family has given Kate the job of convincing Grandma Rose, who’s become increasingly stubborn and forgetful, to move off her beloved land and into a nursing home. But Kate knows such a change would break her grandmother’s heart.

Just when Kate despairs of finding answers, she discovers her grandma’s journal. A beautiful handmade notebook, it is full of stories that celebrate the importance of family, friendship, and faith. Stories that make Kate see her life - and her grandmother - in a completely new way...

Engaging tale of going home

When the life they have been living is unexpectedly turned upside down by the early arrival of a baby requiring immediate heart surgery the principals in this sweet drama struggle to redefine themselves in the midst of pressures from jobs and family. A sweet if increasingly senile grandmother intervenes with both demands and answers that eventually lead the couple to choices they had never considered about how to live their lives and places them on a path they had never considered following.

Sweet love story

This is not the traditional love story that focuses on a man and a woman. It is a story that focuses on the lost love we often experience between a grandmother and her family. It happens, as children and grandchildren phase into adulthood our lives drift away from those childhood moments stolen away at grandmother's house to full shift into adulthood. This storied follows the reconnection of children and grandchildren with their grandmother. The book of stories Katie finds throughout the story are my favorite.

great story!

heartwarming and thought provoking. Lisa Wi gate spins a tale that just about anyone can relate. Aging grandparent, parent and sibling discourse, but when tragedy strikes the discourse disolves.

Tedious book

The story plods along. You can predict where the book is going. The characters aren’t interesting. . The narrator voice is annoying. Switching from characters to character. Very nasal sounding. I don’t recommend this book.

Reminders of life.

This book brought back so many memories of times with my mother,my mother-in-law, my aunt and my wonderful neighbor. It also reminded me of how much we try to hurry time so we can get to retirement and we forget to stop and enjoy each and every day that God has given us. I loved this book very much.
