Publisher's summary

In the small village of Buffalo Brook, Vermont, stands Taylor Manse. A stately Victorian mansion built by the Reverend Michael Mariah Taylor in 1880, its living room floors stained with the blood of at least 19 people, has just been purchased by Wade and Anne Robinson. Wade, a rehabber, has purchased the manse as a fixer-upper, an investment property he hopes to flip at a large profit, as soon as the rehab is completed. What Wade was not told when he purchased the property from the TRI Group was the violent history of the manse. He also had no idea that the TRI Group was Taylor Realty Investment Group, comprised solely of the grandson of the Reverend Michael Taylor, and that he is the first owner from outside the Taylor family in the manse's 125-year existence.

But, in a town the size of Buffalo Brook, it wouldn't be long before Wade would learn of the manse's history. Now, he had just five months to finish his project or face the unsettling thought of still being there in December, the month in which all the previous murders had taken place - every 25 years. This coming December would mark the 25th anniversary of the last murders. If history could be considered a predictor of the future, he and Annie needed to be out of the manse by the end of November or face whatever came this way every two-and-a-half decades.

Oldie but Goody

I read this a while ago. But I did enjoy listening to it. Was not the scariest but was good none the less, especially towards the end, I would give it a 4 star. There is good and evil (liked Eli) it was interesting concept. I will be looking in to some of his newer books as I also read The Room Beyond the Veil which was also good (not on audio though). Slow start , with several twists

I wasnt sure I would enjoy this story , seems sort of run of the mill in the begining . That quickly changes as the story evolves . And for once a decent ending to a horror book .

A Haunted House Unlike Others!

•audiobook•
2.75

A very different ‘moving into a haunted house’ book. It was unique and the characters were ... complex. I liked that.
The story plodded along and I got lost. A lot. I put the book on the back burner. Numerous times.
I don’t need intense terror or action, but it dragged too often, without adding suspense nor substance. I think it’s a really good story, but the delivery was meandering.
The narrator didn’t enhance the experience, although it didn’t dim it either.
It’s better written than other Indie books, but I think it’s a few drafts short from being the best it can be.

Interesting Take on the Haunted House Genre

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would, it was atmospheric and well written and at times the tension was palpable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Wade the protagonist because throughout all of the craziness he never fell into anything bad. He took it all in stride as best as anyone could expect.

What about Alan Philip Ormond’s performance did you like?

I liked the voices that he gave the characters differentiating them but making sure that none of them were cartoony or anything. The sound effects in the background are good as welll.

If you could rename Taylor Manse, what would you call it?

Nothing, it fits the bill as well as anything else could..

Any additional comments?

I received this in exchange for an honest review and greatly enjoyed the experience. Recommended.

More twists and turns...

Exciting plot turns kept me engaged throughout. Good narration performance by Mr Ormond. Overall a good "read'!
