Publisher's summary

Born and raised in idyllic Sullivan's Island, Susan Hayes navigated through her turbulent childhood with humor, spunk, and characteristic Southern sass. But years later, she is a conflicted woman with an unfaithful husband, a sometimes resentful teenage daughter, and a heart that aches with painful, poignant memories. And as Susan faces her uncertain future, she realizes that she must go back to her past. To the beachfront house where her sister welcomes her with open arms. To a place haunted by long-held secrets and devastating betrayals. To the only place she can truly call home.

I loved listening to this book again!

I loved the voice of the author. The performance was good, too. but it was the authenticity of the words the were chosen to paint the scenes for the listener were what captured me. Such a great ending.

A Little Predictable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

But still a nice story. It was easy listening and another good book by Dorothea Benton Frank. I am partial to books about the south, though!

Much tragedy and sadness in this book.

This was not my favorite of Frank's books. Tragedy and death are in too much of book.

Why It only gets 3 🌟

It would have gotten all five stars if it had the entire chapters and not just a little bit here and there

Disappointed this was an ABRIDGED version

Pleasant enough that I want to listen to the next one in the series. Wonderful narrator who can also sing! Bonus points! Light summer reading with some interesting twists. Not unlike Susan in the book, I'm still working on figuring out her father... Update -- I had no idea the audio-book was ABRIDGED! Extremely disappointed to find that out. Minus one star for that.

Loved Sullivan’s Island...

Very enjoyable story. I grew up in the south, and could identify with the main character. The story takes us back and forth from present day to Susan’s early teen years, but it’s a smooth ride. The story flows very well. I’m sad to say I didn’t find DBF until after her passing, but I’m a fan.
