Publisher's summary

This stunning debut novel from Australian author Lucy Christopher generated considerable buzz for its nonstop suspense and breathtaking imagery. Sixteen-year-old Gemma is on a layover at Bangkok Airport, headed to Vietnam with her parents. Then the vaguely familiar Ty drugs Gemma’s drink and steals her away. Her head swirling in confusion, Gemma soon finds herself fighting to survive in the unforgiving Outback.

Interesting

This book kept my attention and the narrator read beautifully. It was just the right length and probably would have become tedious if it was any longer. It did get me thinking about the relationship between captor and captive.

NOT a twist ending or thriller

I purchased this thinking that it would be one or both of the above and it is definitely not either. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent romance story and is perfectly balanced when it comes to description of the world and keeping a steady pace. But do not read this if you want a surprise ending or constant suspense, you will be disappointed.

Love it, love it! Want a sequel so bad !

I read the book twice and decided to listen the audiobook. I can't get enough of this story, it's just so different than your typical "love story". I feel like there is so much more left unsaid...and that by the end of the story was when it was just getting really interesting. Hope the another will continue the story.

Great book

It was different. I liked how the good guy was actually the bad guy. It’s not a book for everyone but I definitely loved how it’s different from every other love book I’ve read. I enjoyed it very much and I hope they make a movie out of it someday.

already listened twice

This narrator has the tone of voice that absolutely suits the story. It's a storyline that some will find unbearable if not unbelievable but the whole book relies on people understanding stories. I think it is lovely. I bought it on a whim and although I have already listened to it twice, it is a book I will come back to because it evokes a view of Australia that we would like to be part of or like to be true.

Magnificent, Thought-provoking story

Any additional comments?

This is not only a story about being kidnapped. It's really a story of what’s right and what’s wrong. I truly cared for Gemma, Ty, I even felt for the poor chickens and the camel tied up outside. I am so emotionally drained after reading this as it's the kind of story that really messes with your mind! I loved every minute of it. I do caution you, this is not the happily ever after type of story. The narrator did an outstanding job!

Expect Conflicting Emotions

It is very detailed. It reminds me a little of Lolita(the movie). Very poetic but less disturbing....somehow.

What a beautiful and heartfelt tale!

This story was written with such an amazing point of view. I found it captivating and poignant, full of pathos, human tragedy and anguish, so much that I couldn't put it down. My heart bled for the child inside of the man who stole Gemma. Read this story or better yet, listen to it on audible. I have no doubt you'll be moved by this truly eloquently written account of the bond of love and hate between two people who will never be the same.
