Publisher's Summary

This stunning debut novel from Australian author Lucy Christopher generated considerable buzz for its nonstop suspense and breathtaking imagery. Sixteen-year-old Gemma is on a layover at Bangkok Airport, headed to Vietnam with her parents. Then the vaguely familiar Ty drugs Gemma’s drink and steals her away. Her head swirling in confusion, Gemma soon finds herself fighting to survive in the unforgiving Outback.

    "Interesting"

This book kept my attention and the narrator read beautifully. It was just the right length and probably would have become tedious if it was any longer. It did get me thinking about the relationship between captor and captive.

    "Nicely written episolary"

There aren't a lot of books that pull off writing in the second person, but Lucy Christopher does a reasonably good job of it. Surprisingly good, actually. It was an enjoyable book. Even at times when the symbolism was a touch heavy-handed, I didn't really mind because the author has a talent for scene setting, and doesn't belabor her metaphors. She managed to maintain some degree of suspense up through the end, and pulled off a risky style, so kudos to her. The synopsis of her other book sounds horrifyingly trite, but this one is worth a listen.

    "Worth repeating!"

I bought this book this little knowledge of the story. I loved the story and the way it was told and the performance so much that a year later I listen to it all over again. As I finish this book for the second time I was still sad to see the characters go…I will be looking for more Lucy Christopher books!

    "A Very, Very Good Listen!"

Talk about a wonderful surprise! Stolen is about the abduction of a young girl and more. . . it is about truth and lies, relationships, right and wrong, love and hate, compassion and disregard for the feelings of others. What is most interesting is that the abductee and abductor are both telling lies and truths, doing what is right and yet also doing what is wrong, hating while learning to love, and feeling empathy and compassion all while having disdain and disregard for the other.

It is a great story, well narrated and certainly worth your time. I do think that women are more likely to relate to the story than men, but it may be that many men will like the book too.

    Take a chance. Listen!

"What a beautiful and heartfelt tale!"

This story was written with such an amazing point of view. I found it captivating and poignant, full of pathos, human tragedy and anguish, so much that I couldn't put it down. My heart bled for the child inside of the man who stole Gemma. Read this story or better yet, listen to it on audible. I have no doubt you'll be moved by this truly eloquently written account of the bond of love and hate between two people who will never be the same.

"2nd person narration; Unusual with a sad undertone"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Here's my review from Goodreads, and the performance of this story was good:

This story is unique, in that it is written in second person narrative, as a letter from Gemma to her kidnapper. Since second person is rare in fiction, it did, upon occasion, jolt my brain, and I'd have to reset to keep reading.

However, I enjoyed the story overall and thought it was well-written. Nothing really worked out the way I thought or expected. It's a bit intense, in a weird and twisty sort of way, and it's basically never fun or lighthearted. So don't expect that. Expect unusual with a sad undertone.

    "Could have been great....."

This story had so much potential but in the end never delivered. There was not enough of anything. I felt like the story had just started when the heroine was injured and subsequently rescued. There just needed to be substantially more story between the time she was stolen and the rescue. Very disappointed.

    "Truly Heartbreaking"

Just when you think you know what's going to happen, it changes. So glad I chose to listen to this. It was a heartbreaking look into the reality of being stolen.
