Great Story

This is a sweet romance. It is a gentle story with enough drama to keep it entertaining and moving forward. There are also a number of well thought out touches that make it adorable.

There is a dog that every puppy mommy will appreciate and a kid that makes the womb give a little shudder (in a good way).

As much as I love Beers, I was disappointed by the narration. It lacked the flow I need to get drawn into the story. Having said that, I did enjoy the fact that I got to hear the woman who wrote the story reading it. That will always be something special.

It is worth a listen. The story is fantastic and some people love the narration, others don’t love it so much. So listen to the sample and if enjoy then get the audio book.

A new favorite

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The story was engaging throughout and I liked seeing how the main character’s view on an issue she felt strongly about was challenged and ultimately upended in a way that was plausible and well paced. The narration was heartfelt and really added to the listening experience by relaying the author’s tone and emotion in every scene. It did sound as though the author/narrator was reading the book instead of telling me the story in the beginning and a couple of times here and there but for the most part, it was quite enjoyable.
I can definitely see myself re-listening to this audiobook.

Over 40... The Next One Counts

When it comes to wanting or not wanting kids, I get it: the hesitation, the reluctance, the lack of confidence in myself... If I'm this messed up, what cruelty would it be to put another, yet defenseless human through something similar... I identify greatly with Avery. ... There is something about the characters that tends to drag me in to their world. It's the author's craft. I could be wrong, but when I was was most distraught by the scenes playing before my mind's eyes, I think Georgia Beers was near tears. There's a lot of reality, just enough hesitation, as if the author is urging us all to grow up just a little bit, get to know each other, wait, breathe, really know each other before we rent that f-bomb U-Haul (so sick of that particular rental expense that can rarely be written off...) I enjoyed the joy painted and hated the pain I knew would come. The twists of fate that flow to a lovely conclusion. Well crafted characters and excellent intertwining - as Ms. Beers is wont to do!

Another great book!

I love Georgia Beers' work! This on resonates personally. The characters are real. They have flaws and are quite easy to relate. I've read this book many times and now I listen to it on Audible. Definitely recommend.

Georgia Beers is hilarious

It was pleasant to her the mind behind all these great pieces speaking granted there are some parts that I think could have been better by another narrator but it’s clear the main character and the authors are peas in a pod

goood book

i have a love hate relationship with writers who try to narrate their own books...this story plot helped me get through this book. the narration wasn't terrible, but neither was it great. but it would keep me coming back from listening to the story again...Amy Sumida did the same thing. unfortunately I couldn't even get through hers and I love the Godhunter Series...These authors should capitalize on a go fund me or Indingo where their fans will actually contribute to pay for a good reader to read their books. someone that will bring them back to listen to their stories more then once because they enjoyed the whole experience. plot and narration. from what Alanea Alder said its pretty expensive and the pirating hurts them more then help profit wise. all understandably, but if you're going to go audio. you shouldn't cut corners. it can actually hurt your book reputation rather help. if I hadn't read The Godhunter series before I tried to listen to it. i wouldn't have wanted anything to do with the books... just saying...all in all good book. I'd buy the kindle edition if you love to read and borrow the audio if you have Audible Escape...but I wouldn't spend a credit on the audio....

Only half way thru, but I can't...

... can't wait to write this review. I have listened to 3 of Georgia's other books (and really enjoyed them!), but I just have to say that this one is my favorite (so far) and I still have the 2nd half of the book left to listen to! That is because of Georgia's awesome writing and narration!! She is SO FUN to listen to! Avery became so crushworthy, so fast. Bright, funny, steadfast, reliable and compassionate, for starters. Thank you Georgia!

Starting From Scratch

I have become a huge fan of Georgia Beers because she writes really great dialogue. When her characters speak to each other, it flows naturally, and their speech contains the same kinds of remarks, jokes, and awkwardness that one hears in every day life. In Starting From Scratch, Avery and Elena have great chemistry, and the addition of Avery's dog and Elena's son is gravy. Avery and Elena both grow nicely through the course of the book, and the supporting characters (Avery's best friend and Elena's ex) add depth and dimension to the story. Georgia Beers is a lesfic author to watch.

One of my favorites!

I have listened to this book so many times. I love the relationship Avery has with Max. Georgia has the perfect voice for Avery as well, and I couldn't imagine anyone else reading this book. I love it!

Fun and surprisingly emotional!

It has been quite a long time since I have cried while listening to a book, and when the book makes me cry, I have to admit that it had dug in deep into my heart and affected me personally. Most of it is pretty light-hearted and I had fun, laughing and smirking a lot with hearty chuckles! I am not a huge fan of first-person perspectives, but man this was a great one.
