Publisher's summary

This collection of sharply observed animal-themed tales is a delight, told with David Sedaris's trademark blend of hilarity and goodnaturedness. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of our own everyday interactions.

In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck", three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty", a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk", a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.

Bizarrely compelling

I honestly don't know how to describe this book. It has a few laugh-out-loud moments, but mostly I found myself listening with half-smile and dumb-founded look on my face, trying to comprehend what I was hearing. Imagine David Sedaris, living as an animal.

I return to this book over and over

Would you listen to Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk again? Why?

I have no memories of being read to as a child , but, as an adult, this is one book that I could see myself requesting to hear over and over again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk?

There are many, but love the first story of the simian beautician placating the cat for tips seems to remind me of everyone.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I loved all of the narrators voices

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Little gems!

I *rarely* listen to an audiobook twice. This was such a precious collection of pithy, juicy little stories that I *had* to listen to some of them multiple times. Loved the narration too, particularly Elaine Stritch. She captured the tone of the story perfectly.

Laughed out loud

I had a rack of shirts to iron. I downloaded this book and set up the ironing board. I was laughing out loud, while ironing away. I love David Sedaris and the voices on this audiobook are perfect.

Always hilarious

This is a masterpiece. I loved every second of it. If you are a fan of David Sedaris, do not sleep on this audiobook.

A good palate cleanse

I just finished a large fantasy book and this was just a fun little palate cleanse. I like the premise of all the stories being from the animals' perspectives. I like other Sedaris a bit more, but this was still worth the listen.

MOOOOO

I usually love David Sedaris, but this was a little weird dark. I do have to admit I really enjoyed the perspective from animals. I also liked the other narrators. Howeve , I would not waste a credit on it.

One of my favorite Sedaris collections

These stories are side splitting funny. Sedaris captivates me with his characters. And hearing them read by him is always a big bonus. This is an easy read with 19 short stories/essays. Good luck putting it down. This is one I have read and listened to over and over. His wit and humor make him one of my absolute favorites. Highly recommend this and other books by Sedaris.

Best described as "okay"

Somewhat tongue and cheek. None of the stories were ones that I would describe as must reads. It made me really uncomfortable when the word "oriental" was used (multiple times, across two stories I believe). I couldn't tell if it was intentional, a word that was only used in the vocabulary of a specific type of character, or just a word that was used in Sedaris' common speech. I guess I'd give more leniency if the former were the case. Overall, the voices were entertaining. It was an good collection of short stories.

Not his best

I love to read, listen to or watch David Sedaris! His books keep me in stitches most of the time and I can't listen to them at work because I disturb others when I laugh out loud! This, however, was not his best.
