Publisher's summary

When a stranger named Marsuvees Black appears in Paradise, he brings with him a message of hope and love. Or is it death and hate? Perhaps neither - perhaps both. He seems to know too much about the town's many unspoken secrets, and he himself holds the greatest secret of them all. As black clouds and sandstorms envelop the town, it becomes almost impossible to get in or out. It quicky becomes apparent that Paradise is being isolated for a reason. But why?

Ted Dekker = Great Stories

Ted Dekker is a great storyteller. He is a master of taking a story and using it to share truths and help the reader think on a whole new level.

My first and last Dekker book. Not my cup of tea.

The narrator was fantastic! The story, in my flawed opinion, was not. I am two hours in and will proceed no further. Listening to Dekker's book I find myself rather depressed with no hope of the book taking a turn for the better.

Call me six years old, but with a title like "Showdown" I would have anticipated a little more acting of the forces of good, but there has been narry a strong, virtuous character yet. The most robust character in the story is a wart eating, eyeball plucking Jesuit with a pocket full of vaseline that he habitually forces people to ingest. I didn't know that I was in for a Stephen King book when I bought this, and it is my fault for failing to research Dekker. Don't make the same mistake as me. Do your homework.

Excellent continuation of the Circle Series

The vanishing blank books of history show up in an unique way in "Showdown". It is the first of three in the Paradise series an well worth the read if you enjoyed the Circle trilogy.

Great listen

Fascinating story. Can't wait for the other two instalments. Is Marsuvious Black gone for good?

A little too dark

Very good allegory but written a little darker than I like, though the lines between good and evil were definitely driven home.

Great Story, but...

My apologies for words which may appear personally attacking, however, I must admit my disappointment with the styles of 'voice'. I heard a mocking sarcasm from powerful characters which rendered them insipid. I endured the entire audio book because I appreciate Ted Dekker's depth of truth and spiritual imagination offered through each book I've heard thus far, and because I was confident his message would be made clear.

Loved the book... Not the narrator

I enjoyed the narrator of Ted Dekkers Circle trilogy. I did not like this narrator as much as he tried to sound like a girl for the female characters.
