Another Rumpole winner!

Rumpole is off the leash in this story! Liz Probert puts together his defense when Rumpole is about to be disbarred for telling off a judge!

A Rave Review with a Caveat Emptor

I love Rumpole. But I suspect my utter enjoyment has a lot to do with a near-total identification with him. In my chosen profession I’m the equivalent of an Old Bailey Hack, doing the jobs no one else wants to with, (if I may say so), a competence in which I take a modest pride. And, like Rumpole, I find the passing years leave me increasingly skeptical of the shiny new ways of doing business that so easily win the adherence of my juniors.

In other words, if you’re an up-and-coming true believer who embraces conventional industry wisdom, receives regular accolades from the higher-ups, and actually reads every email from corporate headquarters, beware. You probably won’t like Rumpole.

As with everything he reads, Timothy West is magnificent here.

Great fun visiting with old friends again. Rumple, she who must be obeyed, Portia and the rest. Overall a good time.

Good short stories well done.

Timothy West is fantastic reading these books. He gets the accents perfect and really does a great job on timing. Not once did I think any of the characters where not quite right. Laughed out loud a number of times with John Mortimer's writing and although this production is a number of short stories, that are not too taxing on the old grey matter, they are enjoyable to listen to. Lovely to listen to whilst commuting home late at night or whilst enjoying that last glass of Port before bed time. Do yourself a favour and have an enjoyable time listening to these works.

Some of the best stories

Timothy West does excellently, though I wish Bill Wallis's incomparable characterization was available for all the Rumpole books. If the half-dozen I've tried, though, this is probably the strongest set of stories. Funny and full of Mortimer's keen (if jaundiced) observation of humans and their foibles.
