Absolutely Fantastic From Beginning to End

Although this story is not told entirely from the point of view of Rose, you are convincingly, vividly and completely transported into her world. Not since "Watership Down" have I found a book which so effectively accomplishes this feat. It is well read and utterly engrossing. Some of the details of the final couple of chapters are somewhat unrealistic, but I think this is notable mostly because the rest of the story is so riveting and believable. Taken as a whole, the story is very uplifting, but at times can be devastatingly sad - particularly for the soft-hearted - keep a box of tissues handy if you are of this ilk! The story of Rose has been indelibly imprinted on my memory and has become one of my all-time favorites (no small task for a very avid reader); I will surely return to it again and again for years to come.

Absolutely amazing story.

I could entirely be biased in my love of dogs, but this story, trust me, was absolutely amazing. The performance was great, and I enjoyed the reader's southern accent was very enjoyable. The conclusion was great, and without spoiling the story, there were quite a few touching scenes. Definitely a book you should purchase if you're a dog lover.

So very touching

My heart went out to Rose, the Wild Dog, Sam, Katie, and all the farm animals. So very touching and passionate. Jon Katz and Tom Stechschulte should be in the Hall of Fame, if they’re not already. At certain parts I wept with abandon.

Rose

The story is interesting, especially to dog lovers, but more than a bit of fantasy. The ending was abrupt, could have been more thorough. I liked the telling of the story through the eyes of the animals, and loved the descriptions of the communication behaviors of all of the canines. Rose is a very special border collie!

Incredibly moving, beautiful tale

The story moves effortlessly back and forth across the line between the human and canine species with great sensitivity and prose. It tells of the complex relationship among dogs, people, other living creatures, and nature.

The contemporary setting is a working farm, and the farmer has recently lost his beloved young wife to cancer. The farmer's dog (Rosie) is a border collie that has a mutually respectful working relationship with him, and a more emotional connection with the farmer's wife, for whom they both grieve. The region is assaulted by an epic snowstorm. You will smile, gasp, and cry during multiple mishaps and drama during the 5-day storm. This story has an uplifting ending and the narrator is perfectly matched to this book in every way.

It's one of my top listens this year!

Very strange ending

I enjoyed listening to this book. I live with 3 border collies and they ARE very smart, probably not as smart as Rose was portrayed but I did enjoy thinking a dog could be that aware of her "work". I also like that, for once, the main dog character was female as most books about dogs are about males. I do know that it is true that ranchers and farmers think dogs are just dogs but most of them actually love their dogs like Sam did.

The only part of the book I didn't like and maybe it's because I didn't get it, was the ending? What is up with that???

A story for all Border Collie lovers.

Story told from both Rose's & her masters point of view. It is a very touching story of the working border collie. It is well written & performed. I will recommend it to all my BC owner friends. Having two of them myself I know the way they need to work and their personalities are so different from any other dogs I've ever had.

Beware!

This is a fictional account of Rose on a fictional farm with a fictional farmer. Would have
been nice for the publishers summary to have mentioned that.........
