Publisher's Summary

Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beast.

When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation. Margo must once again team up with police lieutenant D'Agosta and FBI agent Pendergast, as well as the brilliant Dr. Frock, to try and solve the puzzle. The trail soon leads deep underground, where they will face the awakening of a slumbering nightmare.

Prolong the suspense: listen to the first book, Relic.

What the Critics Say

The netherworld of New York City...proves as shuddery a setting for the authors' latest scientific monster mash as the American Museum of Natural History did for their bestselling Relic, to which this is the sequel. (Publishers Weekly)
"This should do for the New York subway system what Jaws did for Long Island beaches." (Booklist)
"Dick Hill's reading of this fascinating sequel to Relic builds the suspense and horror." (AudioFile)

"Didn't hold up to the first one"

I was excited when I listened to book 1 thinking "I found a good series!" Then I listened to the 2nd, the performance was lacking compared to the 1st: good voice changes and giving each character depth, this book had none of that, sometime hard to remember what character you following. Story was lacking something not sure what but it jumped around and made it hard to concentrate. Overall I was disappointed and only finished it because I was hoping it would eventually pull out for a good ending.

Great story with amazing narration which really helps the engaging and relatable characters all come to life and inspire me to follow their progress through the series. Thanks again for a great read

I found The tunneling echo effect of the narrators' voice when reading character thoughts to be a bit annoying

    "Enjoyable"

I really enjoyed this title and Dick Hill's performance. While some of the portrayals, like the couple getting engaged, had that shrill quality other reviewers complained about, it wasn't a pervading tic of the narration. As with Relic, there were multiple storylines to follow that all wove together in the end, plus a dramatic climax that immediately segued into a wrap up of what happened. It was an enjoyable story through and through.

"a little hard to follow sometimes."

a very interesting sequel to Relic. there were many characters in this novel and sometimes the Epic was a little difficult to follow. I repeated some chapters two or three times. all in all it was exciting and an adventure period especially since the setting underground New York tunnels is real. it makes you wonder.

    "Hill keeps it rolling"

Hill is a good choice to narrate this follow-up to Relic. His voices for the most part are less cartoonish than Colacci's, except for a few characters such as Margo Green who despite being born in Boston sounds like she is from the Bronx and never left. Bill also sounds like a bad impression of Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Another annoying feature of the production on this book is the sound effect used when people are thinking, it sounds just like when they are talking in the tunnels. Over although this is a satisfying sequel to The Relic and an enjoyable listen thanks to Hill.

    "I love everything Aloysius Pendergrass!!!"

Aloysius Pendergast as an FBI agent that is over the top and an incredibly awesome literary character. I have read all the books multiple times and now I am enjoying listening to them.

    "Superb follow up"

You must read the relic first to really get this book, but this book too has a brilliant plot and characters. Unusual mix of sci fi, adventure and murder. This book is true escapism, brilliantly read and superbly written. Hours of true escapism at its best.

    "Great sequel"

Like James Cameron's Aliens, this takes the lone monster hide and seek story of the original, and turns it up to a full on war.

If the first book was "'Alien' in a Museum" then this is "'Aliens' in the sewers"!
A fine followup to Relic, expanding and explaining the beast and what makes it.
    Entertaining and fun.
