Publisher's summary

Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own.

The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning. The air shimmers. The night-time sky fills with a burning red aurora. The moon, previously a crescent, is now full. And just hours after dusk, the sun returns to the sky, revealing an endless desert where there was once a mountainous pine forest.

Led by ex-Army Ranger turned surrealist painter, Griffin Butler, Sheriff Rebecca Rule and her deputy, Helena Frost, the residents of Refuge must weather an ever changing onslaught of otherworldly dangers while trying to uncover how and why the landscape beyond town shifts every time the church bell tolls.

As a sequence of horrific events threaten to destroy the town, the residents must band together, search for answers and find a way to defend their homes, or Refuge will be lost.

Refuge is a serialized novel, co-authored by #1 Amazon.com horror author, Jeremy Bishop, and five other authors, including Amazon.com best sellers Kane Gilmour and David McAfee, USA Today best seller, Robert Swartwood, and newcomer Daniel Boucher. The novel was released in five parts, every two weeks beginning in late 2013, but it is now available as one complete novel. So listen for the individual parts or the whole completed novel. Either way, you're in for a creepy ride.

Interesting

This is sort of like his other book Flux. A town traveling through time. Except this one is cruising the multiverse. Some odd goings on, but interesting

Predictable but entertaining.

narrator was good
story was predictable but entertaining
wish they expressed the horror of the situation a bit better and showed what happened during the lax times to put a better emphasis on said horror. overall not something I would write home about but still held my interest.

Round and round we go

What a great book. At first it isn't quite clear, but then you think you figured it out, but you didn't! You never know what you will see or what will happen when the bell rings, but I promise, if you like a good horror meets mad scientist book, you will love this.

What an amazing journey!

How to describe this book? I was absolutely spellbound as each part of the story progressed. I found myself listening for the "BONG" right along with the residents of Refuge. The only problem I found was that I did not want it to end! I loved the character development, as even the not-so-great residents felt like family by the end of the book. I wish I could find another story like this to listen to now.

Fun for late-night listening...

Not intellectually stimulating but still fun to listen to. A mix of The Dome meets The Hunger Games meets The Lost World meets The Running Man. Predictable but none the less entertaining.

New Hampshire accents waaaat?

Don't let the heavy accent kafer tries to lay on thick in the intro dissuade you from this amazing series! Jeremy Bishop has done it again folks! The books blend together seamlessly despite each book having a separate coauthor. It is my hope that season 2 of this great series isn't too far off. Kafer once again pulls off an incredible performance as he has with all of Bishop's work.

I thought this was well written all around. It definitely gave me some other authors to look into reading / listening too.
