#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “Fans of John Grisham live for his legal thrillers, but now and then he serves up something unexpected. That’s exactly what he does, with great success, in Playing for Pizza.”—USA Today

After providing what is arguably the worst single performance in the history of the NFL, third-string quarterback Rick Dockery becomes a national laughingstock. Cut by the Cleveland Browns, and shunned by every other team, Rick insists that his agent find a team that does need him.

Against enormous odds, Rick lands a job—as the starting quarterback for the Mighty Panthers . . . of Parma, Italy.

The Parma Panthers desperately want a former NFL player—any former NFL player—at their helm. And now they’ve got Rick, who knows nothing about Parma (not even where it is) and doesn’t speak a word of Italian. To say that Italy—the land of fine wines, extremely small cars, and football americano—holds a few surprises for Rick Dockery would be something of an understatement.

People need people. Great narration.
More than a sports story. This is the first book I have read by this author.

Excellent on All Levels

My favorite book by John, surprisingly has nothing to do with lawyers. It's A Painted House. My second favorite, however (and only by the slightest of margins), is Playing For Pizza; a unique tale, wonderfully told with rich characters and a storyline that has you cheering for the hero up until the final pages.

My second favorite John Grisham book

Fun listen

Story was unusual for Grisham. It was fast paced and the narrator made you feel the pain, wonder, and peppered with sexy moments. The southern accent was a bit off.

I'd give this 3 1/2 stars. The story was fun, simple, and enjoyable. I loved how it began and how you get to know Nick, the main character. I also really, really liked the ending. I listen to these Grisham books about sports with my 12 & 14 year old step sons, this is our third of Grisham's, This was the best of the three. The narrator just wasn't very warm and didn't include any of the humor in his voice, he was a bad choice for this story.
Still worth a listen though.

Story was great, narrator almost ruined it.
