Publisher's Summary

V. C. Andrews gained national fame with Flowers in the Attic, the chilling tale of four young children locked away by their ruthless grandmother. Now, with over 38 million copies of her sensational thrillers in print, V. C. Andrews continues to be a household name even after her death.

After several terrifying years of captivity, the three surviving Dollanganger children have found a way to escape their prison, but they have been scarred forever. Petals on the Wind follows these children into adulthood. Although they find success and fame, they are led deeper into the curse that still haunts their family. As the three struggle to lead normal lives, revenge draws them back to the one who turned the key in the lock so long ago. While the tension grows to a fever pitch, Petals on the Wind moves toward a searing conclusion.

    "Still breaks my heart..."
If you could sum up Petals on the Wind in three words, what would they be?

    revenge, greed, sadness...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cathy of course....its her story....but all the characters are noteworthy...

Which character – as performed by Alyssa Bresnahan – was your favorite?

I like them all...and sometimes hate them all too...

If you could take any character from Petals on the Wind out to dinner, who would it be and why?

This is a strange question... Considering the book, it is hard to choose....

    Any additional comments?

I wish Audible had the rest of this series...I think many people should hear this story, and count there blessings everyday...

    "So Bad it's Good?"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well-spent? Hmm....I'm sure I'd be a better person if I had read something more "wholesome" ha ha.

Would you ever listen to anything by V. C. Andrews again?

I'd love to hear the rest of the series if they got the same narrator. And My Sweet Audrina, which is the craziest, most f***ed up of all her books.

What does Alyssa Bresnahan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narration is what made this audible book great. Cause the book itself is pretty bad. But somehow she made the melodrama and flowery purple prose deliciously entertaining.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Nah.

    Any additional comments?

I cannot believe my friends and I read all of these books in junior high. Our mothers obviously had no idea what they were about!

I enjoyed this book like I enjoy eating a whole bag of Doritos. It was good in the moment, but afterwards left me feeling ashamed and a little nauseated.

    "Awesome revenge"
What made the experience of listening to Petals on the Wind the most enjoyable?

Audible format takes these books and makes them more enjoyable. Books don't have tones or attitudes in them like a book being read. You feel a real connect to the situation they are living. You get a better understanding of how and why they do the things they do. You can feel how their relationships really are.

What other book might you compare Petals on the Wind to and why?

Anything that V.C. Andrews wrote her self.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. Although she does a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me cry several times. It tears your heart out. You feel their pain.

    Any additional comments?

Again I would love it, if they continued to convert her older books to Audible format.

    "AMAZING"

This book follows flowers in the attic and it is without a doubt the best of the 3 I listen to. All through these books I noticed that incest was made to look " normal" IT IS NOT! as traumatized as these characters were they should have NEVER allow this to happen. NO EXCUSES!!

"loved it, I wish audible had the 3rd book."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I didn't want it to end. I wish Audible had the third book. "If There Be Thorns. "
Read book one first and book two will be more engaging. Love the narrator too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kathy of course but they are all well established.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes in Flowers in the attic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The final revenge was worth waiting for.

    "Hung on every word"

Flowers in the Attic rivitted me. I was enthralled by Cathy's story, eager to know more and find out what happened next. Book 2, Petals on the Wind, also captivated me. I hung on every word spoken. I went thru a myriad of emotions: gladness at the triumphs & happy moments of the remaining Dresden Dolls; frustration at Cathy's inability to accept real love & chances for true happiness when presented with it; frustration at her self-destructiveness; sorrow for Carrie's struggles; pity for Chris's unrequited love; admiration for his loyalty, steadfastness, & ability to forgive. Respect and approval towards Paul for taking care of his wards as family; disapproval of his relationship with Cathy. Anger towards Corrine for her selfishness, cruelty, and disregard towards her children.

I was a bit disappointed in the overall development of the relationship between Cathy & Bart, it felt rushed to me. Cathy's professed real love for Bart seemed baseless. The ending was a little unsatisfying as well. But I loved the book & looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

"Still good, but, in my opinion, the worst in the series."

This was a good book, with several enjoyable moments. The characters were well explored, and it was a good follow up to Flowers. Still, not nearly as good. I found myself skipping many chapters. The third and fourth books are far better in my opinion. This one took me a few weeks to get through, while the others took me two days in all. Just saying. Now, don't think this is a bad book, it sin't. If you liked flowers read this, there is better ahead.

    "Engaging throughout "

The story was well written. The story line and the narrator had me engaged through out the book that I felt I was in it and couldn't wait to hear the conclusion.
