Publisher's summary

Waverly Bryson is a successful businesswoman in her late 20s who almost has it all: a dream job in sports PR, two best friends, and a bar where everybody knows her name. What she doesn’t have is a ring on her finger. And after being ditched at the altar, she’s in no hurry to get one. Besides, plenty of other issues keep her busy, including her wayward father, a new rival at work, and an ever-nagging fear that her life is not turning out as she thought it would...or should.

To stay sane, Waverly makes a habit of jotting down “Honey Notes”, self-deprecating bitsof single-girl humor that she hopes to one day develop into a line of greeting cards: "Can’t face the dating scene after a bad breakup? Honey, hit the bar, and hit it hard. Beer goggles are the lonely girl’s Cupid."

As Waverly stumbles back into the dating scene (no stalkers or jean shorts, please), her personal and professional lives threaten to collide. Perfect on Paper reminds listeners that everyone has had a bad date (or 12), and that everyone needs a best friend to tell them, “Honey, you are not alone.”

Just ok...

I like fluff but this did not grab me. Too slow at start and by the time it got to be interesting I was already frustrated.

Enjoyable

Would you consider the audio edition of Perfect on Paper to be better than the print version?

didn't read the print, but really enjoyed the audio version

Who was your favorite character and why?

Waverly, she always got herself into a situation and how she got out of it or what she did as a result of it made me laugh out loud a few times. Her honey do notes were an additional source of entertainment.

Any additional comments?

this was a very fun book and halfway through listening to it i had to go out and get the rest of the series. it is a very lighthearted romantic comedy that had very likeable characters and some characters that we have all encountered in our lives and prejudged just to find out they weren't really what we had made them out to be. if you are looking for a quick read that causes you to have some laugh out loud moments all tied up into a romance, then this is the book for you.

Even as a guy I enjoyed these books. Fun read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

In fact my girlfriend and I have gifted this series to several of her friends.

What did you like best about this story?

A window into a world I never suspected existed. I had to stop the audio even couple of minutes for my girlfriend to explain things to me I had never heard of but apparently are part of a language every girl knows. But the humanity and getting yourself into trouble and embarrasing circumstances is universal. Sort of a Brigit Jones sort of book. If you liked that you might like this even more.

What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nice pleasant voice. Helps you dive into the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would say so, though my girlfriend and I listened to it in the car so over quite a few sittings.

Any additional comments?

Try the book, I think that you will like it and want to listen to all three.

Lighthearted and Fun

Bridge Jones, Sex in the City, Mary Tyler Moore! Yes, this has been done before and yes it is a bit of lighthearted, predictable fluff - but so what. I love the human side of the Waverly Bryson character and her "Honey Notes" are to the point and a delightful inclusion.

Julia Whelan is a fabulous narrator and with so many varied characters she does a wonderful job with this book too.

I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who just wants to switch off with some harmless entertainment. Looking forward to the next two in the series.

Wonderfully written characters!!!

What made the experience of listening to Perfect on Paper the most enjoyable?

The humor in this book kept me laughing with a few tears thrown in for the heartaches that Waverly suffered.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Waverly...she is a strong independent woman.

What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?

I love Julia's voice. She makes each book she narrates come to life.

If you could rename Perfect on Paper, what would you call it?

I think the tiitle is perfect.

Great Series 1

I couldn't wait to go on to the next book in the series. Most times I like it better when the complete series is already written before I start a series. I immediately purchased Book 2 to see how te main character was making out.

Julia Whelan makes the series.

Honey, don't expect a riveting tale

Waverly Bryson is the worst kind of stereotype of a woman. She is bashful in front of men, obsessed with getting married, and perpetually and painfully self-sabotaging. If she were my friend in real life, getting a drink with her would be tedious. On the one hand, the “Honey notes” are cute, and the terrible dating stories are mildly entertaining.

I think that part of the reason I found this book a bit tedious was the narration. It seemed like the narrator just powered through and breathed as little as possible, pauses between statements would have made a world of difference.

Example: “Do they like me? They like you! Really? Really.”
Rather than “Do they like me?” (breath) “They like you!” (breath) “Really?” (breath) “Really.”

I felt like I was talking to my niece when she can’t tell me a story fast enough. This book is strictly fluff for when you need some mindless entertainment.

Silly

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, it was a very silly book with an annoying main character.

What was most disappointing about Maria Murnane’s story?

It could have been a very fun light hearted book had the story been pulled together. This book needed some major development and editing.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Julia whelan is awesome and saved this audio. She's one of my favorite audible narrators and I often download books just because on her.

Was Perfect on Paper worth the listening time?

I finished it and others may like it. It had all the makings for a nice contemporary romance- the backdrop of San Francisco, gal pals having a good time, dating in the city and some light comedic banter. But this book just fell short in so many ways - The jokes could have been better, the characters could have been more developed and interesting, the romance fleshed out. Our main character Waverly Is just annoying and one dimensional. This audio book just could have been more......more thought out.....edited......funny.......and interesting.

Any additional comments?

The "honey" cards had me on the verge of cringe.
