Publisher's Summary

The sequel to Off Season, arguably Jack Ketchum’s most famous novel about a historic family of cannibals off the coast of Maine. As suspenseful, fast-paced and intelligently written as the prequel, it was adapted into a movie of the same name.

THE FLIES FLEW IN AND OUT

THE WOODS ARE DARK
This and Richard Layman's The Woods Are Dark were published in 1981. I don't know which was written first. Ketchum mentions THE WOODS ARE DARK several times. Unfortunately both THE WOODS ARE DARK and Off Season are better books. This is still readable, but Ketchum may have ruined it by trying to make it more main stream. There are plenty of gore scenes, but it also gets bogged down with an attempt at character development.

STARING WAS RUDE
I have to agree with another reviewer that this is basically book one, rewritten. There are no new revelations. We don't learn how this family got this way or how long they have been this way, if they are a one and only or are there more? I am going to go on to the third book, The Woman, because it is Jack Ketchum.

TURTLE POWER
The book is dated.

Excellent 2nd installment of this twisted tale!

Right from the start you find yourself cast into the fire. Character development comes later, let's get down to action.

The story is great and can stand on its own, so feel free to read the books out of order. Having read them, it seems the proper order is "Off Season", "Offspring" and "The Woman".

Hannah Kane did a fantastic job of Acting out these interesting and terrifying characters.

Not as good as Open Season but solid!

If you could sum up Offspring in three words, what would they be?

Never live there!

Any additional comments?

This book picked right up with Open Season and took off. Not was good, probably because didn't latch on to the characters as much. Definitely check i out!

Seriously?

I liked this book better the first time I read it, when it was called "Off Season." Seriously, it's almost the exact same story with minor variables thrown in. If you have read Off Season, there is nothing new in this one that's going to shock you.

Night terrors...I jumped at every noise

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No

If you’ve listened to books by Jack Ketchum before, how does this one compare?

I would have to agree with Stephen King,

Which character – as performed by Hannah Kane – was your favorite?

Luke and Claire both. You could sense the connection between mother and son. Love does conquer all even in a Jack Ketchum novel! (I think there is more to come with this group of flesh eaters.)

Could you see Offspring being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It has been made into a movie, filmed in Michigan

Any additional comments?

This book is not for everyone, but if you love nailbiting, hair pulling, wet your pants suspense..read this and other Ketchum novels.
